Cricket: On a grey and overcast day Bradford Town won the toss and elected to bowl first in their game at Spye Park.

Tight opening bowling from captain Matthew Harrington and Kiwi Nic Jepson restricted the home batting early on.

However T Hues (45) and C Doel (19) released the pressure with some clean hitting and at 82-1, the home side were going well. The introduction of spinner Dean Bird into the gloomy and wet conditions paid dividends for Bradford and he bowled 12 overs unchanged, taking 4 for 32. Middle order batsman Dave Beal (28) and Mark Hulse (38) got Spye Park up to 150, but when both batsman were dismissed by Ben Powell (2-25) the innings collapsed and opening bowler Harrington returned to finish the innings off and record figures of 8.1-5-14-2. A total of 168 all out was a par score, although the Bradford bowlers had to bowl a large number of overs in heavy drizzle so their fielding effort was to be commended.

The Bradford response got off to a poor start with Adam Cooksey falling in the second over without score.

A 36 run partnership between James Edwards and Nick Gerrish looked to have put Bradford back on course but when they fell for 20 and 21 respectively, and James Pike perished for 2, all to the bowling of N Doughty (4-33 from 12 overs), Bradford were struggling on 44 for 4.

A 67 run partnership between Clive Warren and Matthew Harrington then put Bradford in the ascendancy again but when Warren fell for 22 and Harrington for 44, the innings subsided with P Fennel taking 5 for 22 from 5.1 overs.

A 19 run victory was recorded by Spye Park in a match where both teams can take credit for preserving with the game in the face of weather not fit for cricket.

Points awarded Bradford Town 8, Spye Park 20.
