SWINDON Cricket Club chairman Tom Foreman has been shortlisted for a national award.

Foreman, who has spent the past six years as chairman of the County Ground club, has been nominated to win the LV= Pride of Cricket Awards’ Club Hero prize – the category which recognises outstanding work in the club-cricket world.

Swindon’s chair is up against 12 other strong candidates, with the public having until Wednesday, October 5 to vote for their favourite. The public vote accounts for 50 per cent of the overall judging in each category, with the other half decided by a jury of cricket writers and representatives from LV= Insurance.

In a statement announcing the news, Swindon said: “Tom's hard work and dedication to SCC is known throughout the club, but it is fantastic to also see it, and the club, recognised on the national stage with particular focus on his time as chairman of the club. He is a true clubman, dedicated to our wonderful sport."

Meanwhile, a fellow Swindon CC committee member said: "Bar duty, coaching, playing, administration, events planning, captaining and leading the club – Tom has never shied away from a role or task and has inspired others, including myself and a tight knit committee, to work alongside and follow his indefatigable example.

"It often feels like the club comes before everything else in Tom's life, but he is one of those people who seems to have more hours in the day and more energy to give to others than the rest of us."

Foreman has played an extraordinarily large part in Swindon’s on and off-field success over the past half-a-dozen years, including: helping with maintenance and upgrades on the Grade Two-listed pavilion interior alongside the club’s facility manager, opening links with the local Sikh and Muslim communities, who have used the club's grounds and premises for religious celebrations, and pushing for large-scale investments in the club's facilities including a full outfield renovation and overhaul of the club’s practice nets.

He has also helped to; coordinate Swindon's 175th anniversary year, refurbish the away changing room, lead the organisation of the club's annual fireworks event for 2,000-plus people, form stronger links with the club’s community neighbours including Swindon Town Football Club, Swindon Harriers and the STFC Community Foundation, solidify relationships with key club sponsors and supporters, oversee the creation of the Saturday fifth XI, and ensure clubmark accreditations are filled out and undertaken at the club.
