Bottom of the Wilts Premier Division table, Purton Reserves stole the headlines this weekend when they inflicted the first defeat of the season on visitors Westbury United.

Purton boss Dennis Carters said it was a great team effort from his side and they deserved their victory.

He added: "It was our first win of the season and a quality performance.

"I don't like to single out players but defender Daniel Atkin had a great game and Craig Alexander took his chances well."

It was Alexander who got the Red House side off to a good start with a tap-in from close range, the visitors fighting back to equalise just before the break.

The home side continued to create chances and were rewarded in the closing minutes when a poor back pass was intercepted by Andy Philpot and the ball ran free to Alexander who fired into an empty net.

Also in the Premier Division, Melksham beat Devizes 3-1 with goals from Amelia Menghini, Rob Manning and Dave Lacey and Pewsey Vale beat Bradford 3-2, Mark Bennett, Greg Pinkney and Neil Stephens scoring for the home side.

After a goalless first half at Corsham, Ross Bentley gave Shrewton the lead and Michael Northeast made sure of victory with a stunning 30-yarder.

Top match in Division One was between unbeaten league leaders Minety and Blyskawica - Minety keeping their unbeaten tag, but only just, in a 2-1 victory.

Minety boss Albert Dearing admitted the home outfit were the better side and they were lucky to come away with the points.

Andy Mitchell scored a goal in each half for Minety with a defender putting through his own goal for Blyskawica.

Stratton Juniors scored the winner six minutes from time to beat Lower Stratton 3-2 - Arran Maximen, Pete Mannion and Richard Wells on target.

AFC Castrol returned to form to beat Stratton NALGO 4-1 thanks to goals from Justin Miller, Paul O'Connell, Damon Sefton and Paul Donnelly.

Two goals apiece from Dave Rendell and Luke Curtis gave Wroughton Reserves a 4-3 win over Westlecott and AFC Rodbourne were hammered 10-2 at Castle Combe.

In Division Two, Chalke Valley also scored 10 against Minety Reserves and Dynamo CDR did well to beat FC Chippenham by a goal to nil scored by Gary Timberlake in the last minute.

Swindon APS took over the leadership of the section following their 3-1 victory over Blunsdon Reserves and Intel beat Swindon Irons 2-1.

Marlborough Reserves and Blunsdon fought out an exciting tie in the Fountain Trophies Junior Cup - Blunsdon winning 4-2 on penalties after the sides finished all square 3-3 after extra time.

John O'Sullivan (2) and Wayne Petrie netting for Blunsdon and Wayne Presley and Mike Burns for the home side.

In the same competition, two goals from Matt Fryer and one from Matt Brown gave Abbey Rodbourne a 3-1 win over Pinehurst United who replied with a strike from Roger Mundy.
