Marlborough had a tough baptism after winning promotion last year after being beaten 36-0 by Minety.

They defended well until Minety converted a penalty in front of the Marlborough posts from flyhalf Jack Ward.

The score spurred Minety on and they added two quick tries from skipper Martin Coe and flanker Max Smith to make it 15-0 A yellow card for Marlborough hooker Adam Whatley after sustained Minety pressure for handling in the ruck gave the home side an advanatge they cashed in on when Ward ran over to score. Tim Vaughan added another try, converted by Ward, to make it 29-0 at the break.

Stern words from Marlborough coach Simon Postlethwaite gave Marlborough renewed vigour but after a couple of missed tackles Vaughan was there to score again. Ward converted to make it 36-0 Marlborough then woke up and Minety were reduced to kicking to maintain their lead.

Marlborough face Swindon Supermarine on Saturday, Minety travel to Swindon 2nd.
