CORSHAM Town manager Justin Flowers hopes his side can extend their unbeaten start to the new Toolstation League First Division season until at least the end of the month.

The Southbank side made it seven points from three games with a 2-0 win at home to Wincanton Town last Saturday and are now the only side left in the division to avoid defeat so far this term.

Corsham will have to be at their best to defend that record this weekend when they complete their August fixture list away at early leaders Bishops Lydeard, who have won three times and lost once from their four league games.

Flowers, who took over at Corsham over the summer, says there is a feel-good factor around the club at present and is keen for it to continue.

“We found out in the changing room after the game on Saturday that we are the only unbeaten side left and it is a nice carrot to have,” said Flowers.

“Obviously it is still very early days and we have only played three games, but we’d like to keep it going for a couple more games, if we can.

“It’s a tough league and anybody can beat anyone, but I think against Wincanton it was the best all-round performance we have had from the three games.

“Both defensively and in attack, things are clicking together nicely. The more we play together, the better the partnerships are working.

“It is a tough game next against the team at the top of the league, but we feel we can beat anyone on our day. We want to test ourselves against those sides around us to see where we are.”

Both of Corsham’s goals against Wincanton came in the first half as Josh Bright and Jack Morris hit the back of the net – although Flowers was equally impressed by his side’s efforts at the other end of the pitch.

“To be fair to Wincanton, I thought they were probably the better side for the first 15 minutes. They started really strongly,” said Flowers.

“Credit to my lads as they stood up to that well and we ended up keeping a clean sheet in the end.

“That’s the second we have had from the first three games and that is the solid foundation you want to build on.

“Off of that, you want to be able to score a couple of goals – and we were able to do that on Saturday.”

Elsewhere, Devizes Town scored three times in the final 20 minutes to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 win away at Ashton & Backwell United.

Tom Slater, Josh Brigham and Matt Swann were all on target for Darran Walters’ side.

Calne Town were beaten 2-1 at home by Bishop Sutton, and Chippenham Town went down by the same scoreline at Longwell Green Sports.
