POTTERNE skipper Ashur Morrison heaped praise on his men after they recorded a dominant 10-wicket win at Taunton St Andrews to move up to fourth in the Premier One table.

St Andrews, who had topped the Premier One table prior to their latest fixture, collapsed to 7-5 after their top six batsmen – excluded Jack Cooper - scored four runs between them.

While Cooper (33) rescued the home side’s dire early situation, his efforts weren’t enough as Taunton only managed to score 111 before being bowled out as Dylan Higgins returned with three wickets.

“Our bowlers bowled really well, though I did think at one point it would be a shorter game than what it turned out to be,” said Morrison.

“You should always expect at least one partnership in any low scoring total.

“For them Jack Cooper batted very well, but we did a convincing job of wrapping up the innings once we got him out.

“It was an important moment when we got Jack out, at that stage we didn’t know whether we were going to be chasing a low 100 score or a figure closer to 200.

“We did really well to stay alert and take that wicket. It was good for me to see that as captain.”

Saturday’s win rocketed Potterne up to fourth in the league table as Morrison’s men benefitted from losses for Bristol and Bath.

The win was made even more convincing when Morrison joined Basil Akram to reach their target in less than 14 overs.

Morrison said: “Myself and Basil (Akram) put on a good partnership and we were determined not to lose our wicket.

“It capped off a good start to what the bowlers gave us.

“The pitch played fine, I think Taunton played a lot of loose shots.

“But when you’re chasing a low score it’s easy to bat mentally. We were always going at a good rate, we didn’t have any concerns.”

Elsewhere in Premier One, Goatacre lost by three wickets after Bedminster chased down 231 with 17 balls and three wickets to spare.
