IT WAS a super Sunday for Melksham Town as their youth teams claimed a double at Mid Wilts Youth & Minor League cup finals weekend at Chippenham Town’s Hardenhuish Park.
Town’s U12 and U16 teams both tasted cup success as the finals took place at the home of the recently-crowned Southern League Premier Division champions.
The U12 Hurricanes got the ball rolling for Melksham, as they secured a 3-1 win over Bradford Town Youth Tigers in their showpiece.
Evan Milburn, Tom Dowell and Ashton Buckland netted for the winners, as Jake Musto notched the consolation strike for the Tigers.
Later in the afternoon, Melksham’s U16 Hurricanes completed a club double to wrap up finals weekend.
Dan Broom and Marcus Tanner scored in a 2-1 victory, with a Bradford Town side again the victims, this time the Foxes, for whom Nat Evans was on target.
There was better news for Bradford during Saturday’s three finals, as their Panthers secured the U13 Cup with a 6-3 success over battling Trowbridge Town Yellow in the morning kick-off.
Bradford got out to a fast start as Finn Powell, Alex Kerr and Stuart Macdougall all found the net.
Trowbridge fought back as Ryan Winstone reduced the arrears, but a second from man of the match Powell restored Bradford’s cushion.
Tyler Robinson bagged a second for Trowbridge but an own goal and further strike from Oliver Withers wrapped up victory for the Panthers, despite Oli Walsh’s reply.
Also on Saturday, Frome Collegians secured the U15 prize with a 4-2 success over Warminster Highbury.
Ben Crossman’s double set up Collegians’ triumph, with Joseva Cagilaba and Danny Pack also on target, Jake Wright netting both for Warminster.
It was an all-AFC Corsham affair in the U17/18 final, where the U17s bettered the U18 Leopards 3-2.
Zak McNeil, Sam Brain and Joe Holland found the net for the younger age group, with an own goal and Nick Eggleton notching the replies.
Sunday’s other final, the U14s showpiece, was won by Trowbridge Town Lions, who edged out Devizes Town Youth 2-1.
George Blagdon and Oli Scott netted for the winners, Toby Piper hitting the reply.
