ROYAL Wootton Bassett Town avoided a potential county cup banana skin by overcoming Ludgershall Sports last weekend.
It may have taken a fortunate penalty 20 minutes from time to turn the tide but Paul Braithwaite’s side saw off their Wiltshire League opponents to progress to the second round of the Wiltshire Senior Cup.
Steve Robertson put the home side ahead early on but Ludgershall were soon level as Sam Walsh nodded in from close range.
But when Steve Yeardley went down in the box under the challenge of Kevin McWilliams, Steve Olphert was allowed to blast home from the penalty spot to restore Bassett's lead.
Then with three minutes to go, Christy Millar played the ball to striker Robertson, who stepped inside his marker and buried a low effort.
