JUSTIN Webster has targeted extending Devizes Town’s unbeaten league run until at least Christmas following Saturday’s victory at high-flying Ashton & Backwell United.

The result means Devizes collected 13 of a possible 15 points in November and they have not lost in the league since a 4-2 defeat at Keynsham Town in late October – form that has seen the Nursteed Road outfit climb to 12th in the table.

And with home games against Chippenham Park and Keynsham as well as a trip to Cheddar to come over the next three weeks, boss Webb sees no reason why they cannot continue that charge.

“It was a fantastic result considering they were second in the table at the start of the day,” said Webster.

“To go on this sort of run is amazing and we have played some decent sides in that time. It’s not like we’ve played all of the teams at the bottom.

“Confidence comes from winning and we’ve got to look at the next three or four games as winnable too.

“We’ve got two home games next, starting against Chippenham Park this weekend. They beat us 1-0 earlier in the season but I don’t think we deserved to lose.”

Robert Mitchell fired Devizes ahead in the first half at Ashton & Backwell before the home side restored parity after the break.

But Webster’s men responded well and Mark Barnes lashed home the winner in the final 15 minutes.

“That was just Mark’s second game of the season for us as he lives in London,” added Webb.

“In my opinion he is the best striker in the league and if we had him available every week we’d be right up there.

“It is just a bit difficult with his living arrangements but he was able to play on Saturday and made a real difference for us.

“We were comfortable in the first half but they came back strongly in the second. After they got back to 1-1 we really went for it and I think we deserved to get the win.”
