11:46pm

Thanks for follwoing the game with MATCHDAY LIVE, hope you all enjoyed that, it was a great game of football to watch.

We'll be back bringing you updates from Saturday's home game with Coventry.

10:49pm

Nathan Thompson is also suspended on Saturday following his sending off tonight.

10:48pm

"Josh has gone back to Derby." Cooper not elaborating on the Lelan situation.

10:47pm

"I thought our team were sensational." Cooper's praise continues.

10:47pm

On the injuries on Barker, Gladwin and Michael Smith, Cooper said he can't see them being fit for Saturday

10:46pm

Cooper added: I think the first half we should have been up, you need to score, there goal was a fantastic, our players were incredible to play the footballl they did against a championship, they deserve every plaudit they get. They will say what a fantastic football team Swindon have."

10:45pm

Mark Cooper said: "You take verything, the thing that stands out for me and nearly every player came up to find me and said what fantastic football team you have."

10:45pm

Mark Cooper said: "You take verything, the thing that stands out for me and nearly every player came up to find me and said what fantastic football team you have."

10:43pm

Still waiting for Mark Cooper in the media room.

10:22pm

That's it here, a frantic second period of extra time sees Town eventually lose 4-2.

10:21pm

Goal, again the shot goes to Foderingham's left and again it goes in with 'keeper guessing right.

10:20pm

Forster-Caskey steps up for the second time.

10:20pm

So stupid from Nathan Thompson, he brings down Forster-Caskey in the box as last man with Town caught upfield. He'll miss a game now for a needless challenge.

10:18pm

119 mins: Town have all the ball but can't make an inroad as the official shows for two more minutes.

10:16pm

117 mins: L Thompson gets to the byline and rolls in a dangerous ball which is shuffled behind for a corner. There's only one team in it at the moment.

10:14pm

115 mins: Forster-Caskey is booked as Brighton are the team looking on the back foot now.

10:13pm

114 mins: Kasim is orchestrating some lovely stuff from Town, pehaps they will make that one last chance.

10:11pm

Gary Gardner sees yellow for a cynical lunge on N Thompson.

10:10pm

Kasim has been superb tonight.

10:10pm

111 mins: Goal for Town! Kasim waltzes through and finishes emphatically, is this back on?

10:08pm

Swindon fans rightly applaud as their side as they continue to try and play. They might pay for this at the weekend in their legs.

10:07pm

109 mins: Perhaps not, Kasim again drives forward and finds Waldon but his low shot is saved relatively comfortably as Town show signs of life.

10:06pm

108 mins: It's a very tired affair now, Brighton content with their lead and Town too tired to do much about it.

10:03pm

A quick turn around and we're back uner way again.

10:03pm

Half-time in extra time.

10:00pm

104 mins: Brighton seem content to stroke the ball around at the back here as the official shows one added minute.

9:58pm

102 mins: Foderingham almost gifts Brighton a goal after he got over-confident playing from the back.

9:56pm

Town, understandably, are looking leggy now.

9:54pm

99 mins: Foderingham goes the right way but Forster-Caskey's penalty beat him low down to his left.

9:53pm

98 mins: Turnbull brings down Colunga and Brighton can make this game safe.

9:52pm

McCourt was allowed to jink across the top of the Town box and found Chicksen on the left, his ball in went all the way to the far post where the Spanish debutant had a simple finish.

Town paying for that Barker injury almost immediately.

9:50pm

95 mins: Goal, Colunga taps home from close range.

9:47pm

93 mins:  Town will have continue with 10 as Barker looks to have injured his shoulder, very unfortunate for Cooper that.

9:46pm

92 mins: Barker is down again. Town are out of subs.

9:46pm

91 mins: Barker has a shot from distance that sneak past Brighton's far post.

9:44pm

We're off again here.

9:44pm

Teixeira comes on for the start of added time for O'Grady as Hyypia rolls the dice.

9:39pm

We'll have 30 minutes more here, then penalties if it's still even

9:36pm

The game is petering out a bit here and extra seems inevitable.

9:33pm

91 mins: After a short deliberation it is Gladwin who goes off.

9:32pm

90 mins: Six minutes of added time.

9:32pm

90 mins: Maybe not, Barker is down so Gladwin may have to stay on.

9:31pm

89 mins: Waldon comes on for a tired looking Gladwin.

9:28pm

85 mins: Gladwin jumps up and down a bit and seems fine as he trots back on.

9:26pm

84 mins: Ben Gladwin is down on the far side it doesn't look good for him, he's signalled to bench.

9:25pm

83 mins: Branco gets in a header from a B Smith corner but it goes wide.

9:23pm

80 mins:  Williams goes off to be replaced by former Seagull George Barker.

9:22pm

79 mins: Brighton cranking the pressure as we tick towards 80 minutes. Dunk has a chance from a corner and the Championship side are now camped in Town's half.

9:21pm

5,414 fans at the County Ground tonight with 628 from Brighton.

9:20pm

77 mins: O'Grady has been blunt all night and frustrates the Brighton fans with a really lazy swing of the boot that send the ball high into the night sky and well over.

9:19pm

76 mins: The excellent Luongo goes off to be replaced by Ben Gladwin, that must be precautionary on his return from injury.

9:17pm

75 mins: Byrne forces a corner that Town take short and waste.

9:13pm

71 mins: Hyypia makes a double change, new signing Gardner and McCourt on for Lua Lua and Crofts.

9:12pm

70 mins: Kasim fires well wide when well placed cutting in from the right after a tidy interchange between Luongo and Williams.

9:11pm

68 mins: Lua Lua getting cat-calls from the stands after a hard tackle from Branco puts him down by the touchline.

9:08pm

64 mins: The bug is catching, L Thompson now clears the Town End. Luongo again at the fulcrum of that move.

9:06pm

63 mins: M SMith puts a shot out of the ground after more good stuff from Luongo. B Smith was well placed outside the striker and was definitely a better option than the wayward strike.

9:05pm

62 mins: N Thompson has to bail out Branco after the Brazilian dives in trying to cut out a pass to Lua Lua, the Town captain makes a key tackle inside his own box.

9:03pm

Ankergren draws chants of derision for some shoddy footwork and a dangerous ball to Chickson at left back.

9:02pm

59 mins: N Thompson goes in the book for a foul on Lua Lua as the Brighton man jinked past the Town defender.

9:00pm

57 mins: Byrne puts in a curling ball back to the back post that B Smith cannot get under control and it goes behind for goal kick.

8:58pm

56 mins: Chris O'Grady fires a low shot across goal that goes just past the post.

8:57pm

55 mins: Forster-Caskey's corner is headed on to the bar by Dunk, if Foderingham got a touch on that it was a great save, if not then Town have got lucky.

8:55pm

53 mins: Luongo has a shot from all of 30 yards but it strikes the top of the Town end.

8:54pm

Swindon fans in good voice here as they watch their team going full throttle against their visitors.

8:52pm

49 mins: Kasim has a free-kick same end he scored from on Saturday but it its the wall.

8:50pm

47 mins: M Smith almost puts Swindon in front. Luongo finds him in loads of space and Smith checks back on to his right before unleashing a low shot that only just goes past the far post, close.

8:49pm

Luongo played him in with a great ball after Colunga gave the ball in the midfield, L Thompson with a crisp finish past Ankergren and Town are right back in it.

8:48pm

46 mins: Town strike back instantly throgh Louis Thompson!

8:47pm

... and we're off again.

8:47pm

Teams are back out.

HALF-TIME ANALYSIS

Town have been by far the better side here in the first-half, they have completely dominated the visiting Championship team yet find themselves 1-0 down.

Michael Smith has had Town's two clearest chances to score but one was blocked and the other he put over the bar, both from close range.

Brighton's goal came courtesy of a wonder striker from Rohan Ince but otherwise Sami Hyypia's side have offered little going forward.

8:33pm

OUR VIEW

8:32pm

HALF-TIME

On the stroke of half-time Ankergren fumbles a Byrne free-kick with the ball only half cleared by Brighton as the referee blows to end the first 45.

8:31pm

46 mins: Luongo gets through on the right and puts in a low ball that Hughes deal with at the front post. Town's strikers need to be getting on balls like that.

8:29pm

45 mins: One minute added time to come.

8:27pm

40 mins: Kasim is booked for a foul on Lua Lua. That was one of those your teammates don't mind you picking up, Lua Lua bursting through the midfield but Kasim trips him just inside the Swindon half and allows Town to regroup.

8:24pm

38 mins: Lewis Dunk drives out of the back for Brighton and plays in Colunga through a channell into the Town box. The diminutive Spaniard gets a shot off but it's wide and ripples only the side-netting.

8:21pm

36 mins: Louis Thompson battles his was through the Brighton midfield and encroaches on the area before firing a shot way over the bar.

8:19pm

34 mins: Williams gets a shot in that's deflected and loops towards goal, Ankergren claims and then tries to catch out an out of position Foderingham.

8:17pm

31 mins: Byrne fires a shot which is going in the top corner before a deflection sends it behind for a corner. In the resulting passage Swindon get several shots in and the ball ricochets around the Brighton box. Swindon totally on top here.

8:16pm

30 mins: Town work the ball wide to B Smith who puts in a good low cross that seen out by Dunk.

8:14pm

28 mins: Chris O'Grady gets in a very dangerous ball across the face of the six yard box but no on in blue is near it.

8:13pm

Brighton enjoying their first spell of possession, this will test Town's back three.

8:11pm

25 mins: Brighton lose the ball in the midfield and Luongo bursts through onto the Seagulls' defence, he finds M Smith wide whose cross is headed well wide by L Thompson.

8:06pm

22 mins: His effort looks dangerous but I think Ankergren knew it was always wide. That, or he couldn't be bothered to dive.

8:06pm

21 mins:  Kasim with another dead ball chance here.

8:05pm

20 mins: A nice ball from Luongo finds Williams well placed outside the area but his shot goes over the bar.

8:04pm

19 mins: Kasim has a couple of blocked efforts and he tries to weave his way towards goal.

8:03pm

So far one side have played the football here and it's not the Championship side. However Brighton managed a goal with their only shot on target so far and Swindon are working hard to get back into the game.

8:01pm

16 mins: M Smith has another chance, almost identical the last. Byrne rolls it across the box and the big striker cannot get a clean contact giving Ankergren an easy gather.

7:59pm

Town have reacted well to the goal and are applying some heavy pressure to the visitors.

7:58pm

11 mins: M Smith has a chance to equlise almost instantly but he volleys over from eight yards out when well placed.

7:57pm

10 mins: Ince is booked for taking his shirt off in celebration.

7:56pm

The Brighton midfielder volleys home first time from the right-hand edge of the area after a delightful clipped ball from Adrian Colunga.

7:55pm

9 mins: Goal from Rohan Ince for Brighton. Wow, that was special.

7:53pm

8 mins: Town win a free-kick well within Yaser Kasim's shooting range. I bet he would love to score tonight. Unfortunately his strike is over the top.

7:52pm

7 mins: Byrne does better with a cross from the right and Dunk has to be aware to head clear with M Smith behind him.

7:51pm

6 mins: B Smith gets in behind Brighton on the right-hand side and has two chances to cross but wastes both.

7:50pm

5 mins: First shot of the game comes in from Kazenga Lua Lua, it goes harmlessly wide.

7:48pm

So 42 per cent of you have gone for a narrow Swindon win. Positive Town fans tonight.

7:47pm

3 mins: Confident start from Town, no sign they'll be changing their passing approach tonight.

7:44pm

Brighton to kick-off, wearing their traditional blue and white stripes, Town, of course, in red.

7:42pm

The teams are out, the subs are still trundling off and UB40 is playing, it's go time.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Sami Hyypia

Sami Hyypia said tonight was a very big game - for Swindon. Is he underestimating Town? Let us know in the comments or using #stfcadver.

7:23pm

Mark Cooper in programme ahead of tonight's game:

"It is great for us to be playing a side like Brighton tonight because we are going along a similar line to them with the way we are trying to do things in terms of football. Obviously we are a few years behind them but they've managd to come up through the leagues up to the Championship. I'm sure it will be a cracking game of football.

"I wouldn't think that there will be too many passes tonight but I am already looking forward to seeing the passing stats after the game.

"We've got a bit of a Brighton connection with a number of staff that have played and worked down at Brighton, so they're looking forward to it and looking forward to showing them what they can do."

7:16pm

Town striker Andy Williams made his Swindon bow the last time these two sides met as Town won 3-0, he's hoping he'll have the same luck tonight.

Town have not been beaten by Brighton in the League Cup. Played them 3 times. First in 1994, 1-1 away then 4-1 at home in the replay (yes, replay) and the 2 years ago, 3-0 to the Town. Still remember that well worked free kick and Paul Benson's goal for the opener.

I thought the challenge at Crawley was pointless - if you are going to bring someone down with a high risk of getting a red at least do it outside the box. Don't concede a pen as well. Less than 2 weeks later he does it again. The first one was perhaps excusable this time he should get a big fine from the club as he can't seem to learn the lesson.

Poor choice and we could all see it coming as well as soon as he went through.

Team on Saturday could be interesting, if not a little lightweight!

Some great stuff from the players but baffling substitutions from the manager. Williams was having a great game and didn't look tired. He didn't look happy with being taken off either. We lost a lot of our attacking threat with that substitution. Sorry if I've got it all wrong (injuries?) but it looked like Cooper just wanted to give players time on the pitch, as if it was a friendly, when the game was there to be won.

Thought they played really well but agree with some of the fellas on here, if we'd of taken some of our chances we'd have won. Their fella, Tom Ince's cousin apparently according to my Brighton supporting mate, belts a screamer in on the volley and Smith, despite working hard and trying his best, missed from about 7 yards out - which was the difference between the teams.

Dazza, Just scroll back a bit from the post you quoted me on, and you will see I have said exactly the same as yourself, BUT, who is now going to play in NT's place ? You had better clean your boots off and report for training tomorrow, lol. He should have known better. I said about precisely this some weeks ago and got slated, but thats two costly reds now, and despite what he says to the press, I'll bet Cooper is far from happy. Captaincy may slip away from him, he obviously isn't thinking as the game progresses.

Some of those boys became men tonight. Yes there was the lovely passing game that we've now come to expect, but tonight they fought and fought. Yes they missed chance after chance in the first half, but came flying out of the blocks after the break. With each injury I thought that must be game over, but with 9&1/2 men and two down in extra time they came flying out out again.

It was worth the admission money just to watch Yasser. Connor Walden seemed to take inspiration from him. He runs at defences like Miles Storey, but with an old head on young shoulders, he rarely wastes a ball, holding it till a red shirt is available. This young team is very much work in progress, but already they are showing that they could be a bit special.

Agreed. If he'd had any chance of getting the ball the challenge might have been understandable (as his brother's was at Crawley) but he just bundled into the back of the player. With a very lenient ref in charge he'd already got away with a fair bit of strongarm stuff tonight. Branco was very lucky to get away without at least a booking for his lunge. Many refs would have sent him off and I don't think he could have had any complaints if that had happened.

Den, I think we have to expect a certain amount of "youth enthusiasm over experienced pro's" and the heat of the moment getting the better of them, but, NT is into being an experienced guy now, and he should know better. I like him as a player but there is still this unfinished aspect to his game. Would his old Italian task master have tolerated that tonight ? somehow I don't think so. Not without bursting a blood vessel or two anyway, lol.

Wiz, if he doesn't clean up his act soon he'll get a reputation as a lower division clogger. Louis is just as committed and he does take risks but on the whole he makes fair attempts to get the ball. Some of Nathan's challenges are pretty crude.

I'd love to know the difference in supposed values of each team and the wage difference, because they may be able to justify theirs by saying they won, but we entertained, we put on the show and we showed spirit. I think our worth went up on tonight's showing. I also hope we had some potential investors in the stands too as well as clubs wanting to see how we play so they can loan us some good stock.

On the whole we can be proud of the team tonight, pushed a championship side all the way and think it would have been different if we hadn't had the injuries and gone down to 10 men. Need to work on finishing though as it seems to take us 10 chances to score 1 goal.

Also worrying for Saturday now, unless we get a few new players in ASAP we may end up starting with 16/17 year olds. That's what's so frustrating about Thompson at the end, just no need as the game had gone, he really let the club down.

Poor choice and we could all see it coming as well as soon as he went through.

Team on Saturday could be interesting, if not a little lightweight!
God knows why some muppets have given you a thumbs down! I thought that was spot on!

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A good summation my boy! Pretty much sums up my thoughts. All the extra time and drama would have been academic if Smith & Thompson L had had their shooting boots on(yes I know he scored) but the ball boys are still half way down Manchester road looking for the balls. I think Smith nearly hit the Murray John building! Joking aside it was hard to see who was the higher league team. Kasim just gets better and better but those missed chances once again have cost us dearly and we surely crave a sharper finisher than our current options. Definitely lost our shape when the bongo man and Wilma went off but both carrying knocks.
If we can turn in performances like that in the league and finish better we'll be fine.

Great value for money tonight really enjoyed the game and thought we were excellent. The players should take great credit they were really up for it and even at 3-1 gave it their all.

Kasim getting better and better by the game and our man of the match by some distance imo, Cooper's maybe right when he says Premiership teams should be looking. Don't be surprised if Brighton make a bid like QPR did last season.

In terms of the bookings well most were justified, and in our case 'taken for the team' no issue with those. Nathan's red well I have a bit of sympathy for him, after an outstanding performance he cant just switch off and let the lad score he's captain and has to try and stop him. Hindsight's wonderful but he cant have been thinking 'oh there's a minute to go and I mustn't get a red'.

Thought the ref had an indifferent game, he gave some innocuous free kicks first half then lets the Branco challenge go and also the one that hurt Gladwin which looked similarly forceful.

But credit to Brighton too they had a bit more know-how and passed it round well, and a stunning first goal which a lot of Swindon fans applauded.

Of course we're in the mire on Saturday now unless we get reinforcements in. Cooper suggested maybe 2 would have been the original target but obviously now wants more.

Oh and nice to see the scoreboard working again!

It was Louis Thompson who got sent off at Crawley,Nathan Thompson tonight. If you are going to post about players learning a lesson try to
get your facts right. Both Thompsons give 100%, Nathan put in an
excellent performance today as did all the other Swindon players.
Louis scored a superb goal. It was a shame Nathan got sent off he was
obviously very tired and mistimed his challenge but was pushing for
one last attempt to equalise. I think Nathan makes an excellent captain.
Get behind the team and encourage the players!

Tonight you saw a team that has the making of the same mark that Bert Head's babes did around 50 years ago ..... Saturday will be difficult given all the injuries, so if you decide to trundle down to the County Ground having not been there this season and things don't go well, be patient... this team will only get better and better and with your support can seal their own chapter in the STFC teams of legends.

Skilful, great technique, passing ability with great endeavour. Well played tonight you showed you have the tenacity in the face of adversity with all the injuries etc. to stick with your system and battle it out until the end.

I thought the challenge at Crawley was pointless - if you are going to bring someone down with a high risk of getting a red at least do it outside the box. Don't concede a pen as well. he's a liability, if we get the long awaited centre back in he can serve his 3 match suspension and sit it out on the bench when he returns until he learns how he's letting his team mates down and agree with you 2 weeks fine as well might give him a wake up call..

Will write more extensively tomorrow, but wanted to say I think Nathan T needs to be demoted as captain. 5 games this season = 3 yellows and one absolutely ridiculous red card. At that rate he will be suspended for more games than he plays. He easily could have given away another penalty if the ref had spotted some of his play at corners, and there was simply no excuse whatsoever for what he did at the end. Not the maturity one expects from a captain. We can't drop him because of the shortage of numbers, but we also need to send the strongest possible message to him. That was totally irresponsible and he just doesn't learn. Last year was equally bad. Presume Cooper has talked to him and it obviously it hasn't worked, so need to give him a whack that hurts. Otherwise, he will foul his way out of the team anyway.

Great performance otherwise tonight. Where the hell were all the fans? I travelled 12,000 miles round trip, and drove five hours today to get there, and less than 5,000 fans showed up for a cheap game against an excellent Championship side. Disgraceful. Feel for Power, who has put in a lot of money and obviously has a great eye for players. COYR.

Exactly right. Yet you get thumbs down for saying it as it is! Some people on here have got about as much sense as Nathan showed last night. Had it been 3 - 3 in the semi-final then maybe it would have been worth taking one for the team, but not under those circumstances last night. Hope the club give him a big fine.

Get off the lads back and stop looking for a scapegoat, try concentrating on the positives from last night!! the whole team were outstanding.
