Williams feels Town will start to reap the benefits of Cooper’s masterplan

ANDY Williams does not think Swindon Town’s confidence will be knocked by only picking up one point from their last two games.

Town dominated Tuesday night’s draw against Gillingham and Saturday’s loss with Crawley in terms of possession and attempts at goal.

Mark Cooper said he was disappointed with the results but Williams does not believe the team’s faith in themselves has taken a hit.

Williams scored his first Town goal since notching in the opening round of the League Cup last season as a late own goal forced by Raphael Branco earned Town a point at Gillingham and after the game, the striker spoke of the belief amongst the players.

“I don’t think we lack confidence, we know our game plan, we worked on it all pre-season, all last season, everyone knows their positions and role in the team,” he said.

“I think that show we’re so well-drilled in keeping the ball. We’ve just got to iron out a few little errors.

“I felt we dominated the last two away games and we’ve only got a point from them, but we probably should have had six, it would have been a lot worse having no points than one.”

Williams missed the majority of last season with a cruciate ligament injury he sustained in training whilst on loan at Yeovil Town and the 28-year-old was clearly delighted to be back amongst the goals on Tuesday night.

Despite the high quality of his strike, Williams admitted afterwards he was not overly bothered how he scored, as long as he was on the scoresheet.

“I was obviously delighted, I didn’t really care how it came and to come to the way it did it was quite a nice goal.

“When you put a spin on it like ‘it’s been a year’, it sounds terrible but considering I’ve been injured for nine months and this is my first start back, I was quite happy that I’ve scored in basically in my first game back.”

Nice one Andy. Keep working hard and the rewards will come. You take a lot of unfair stick but your effort is never in question. Team looking pretty good right now and can only get better.

I echo the sentiment Vikingred. I just hope the lessons have been learned from last season. Conceding sloppy goals and not picking up points away from home cost us a place in the play offs.

Don't think Tim Sherwood is still in the picture for Palace, as with West Brom there was breakdown with him bringing in Les Fernandes and Ramsey in to replace their present back up staff.

It was good to see Andy score. The amount of stick (barn door Wilma etc.) he got before the season even started was ridiculous for someone coming back from a potential career ending injury. I believe his confidence was wrecked by PDC behind the scenes which resulted him looking a shadow of the player he looked like becoming. I really hope this is the beginning of a new start for him but no doubt one missed chance and some of the usual subjects will be back on slating him. Like I posted yesterday for me a mid-table finish this season is not the end of the world. We seem to have slightly more tempo in the way we are playing than we did last season and I think that will make a difference. I am still hoping to see a couple of the signings they keep hinting at.

I'll settle for anything if it means we still have a club to support next season same as you. There is no shame in being hard up, but if we can keep the focus on the way we are playing well decent football, scoring goals and sending most home happy then we may just attract more sponsorship. I also hope this is the beginning of a goal scoring run for Williams, and then as you say people will get off his back. Maybe it is a bumpy road ahead, but if we keep playing decent stuff it should help to provide the means of a way to better times, even if it means next May we sell a few players. If that is the way forward then so be it, sad in a way , but players move on and we have to accept that.

I sat with Andy at a supporters club dinner a while ago and he was telling us that he would no praise for good work and goals scored, just critism for misses etc, Andy I a quiet shy type of person who in my opinion needs encouragement not flack. Good luck Andy & the team for Saturday

Absolutely, why contribute to the club when you can freeload? Just keep the criticisms flowing whilst you give nothing.

At least he goes to games and from what I've read of his posts he's probably (like most of us) spent more money on watching the Town in his lifetime than he'd care to mention. I've got no objection to good supporters getting complimentary tickets. I get more brassed off with people who claim to be Town supporters - some of them are on here a lot - when in fact they never go to games, so they actually give the club no support whatsoever. For the avoidance of doubt, I should add that I'm not talking about people who struggle to attend games due to financial or geographical constraints, just those who have a lot to say but simply can't be bothered to do what theey claim to do - support.

I suppose it depends on how you define good supporter. I don't think there's much doubt that Grim steps over the line sometimes but it's usually after someone's had a pop at him over a comment he's made. It's all taken far too seriously. In my view, someone who attends a lot of games and spends a lot of money doing it is a good supporter (even if he is currently the lucky recipient of freebies). The club would doubtless consider that as better support than choosing to sit at home giving nothing to the club with either money or voice.

Hi Den.

I'm still looking for what I mentioned on Tuesday. We played Bury as the first game of the season in 1974, so that's where I'm searching.

If I track it down and you'd like to give me an e-mail address to send it to, I'll scan it and send it on.

Absolutely, why contribute to the club when you can freeload? Just keep the criticisms flowing whilst you give nothing.

Well done.
But he's not a good supporter!! Just a vile man that insults everybody..

It would be interesting to know how many free's the club gives away each game, i used to get few from Macari way back in time, can't blame people having a free if they can get one, but you'd think if we are so broke and can't pay our bills they should be stopped.

Comps have always been seen as a players perk, haven't they? Along with their wages they've come to expect a few free tickets for friends and family, no big deal is it? If they were taken away it's hardly going to the clubs coffers by a great deal surely.

Grim, all banter aside I aint no his and hers, never, ever in a lifetime, and at least with me it is banter as we have had plenty of that over the years. Perhaps you could put the coat on another peg like Harley or that idiot who was here last summer and then disappeared. You seemed to have plenty of ruckus with him.

Hope the goals will come for him and he can form a decent partnership with Smith.

Mr Power has seen your post, and I'm afraid your complimentary Royal box seat, free programme and pre match meal has been reduced to a hot dog and a seat in the middle of Stratton Bank where you will have a nice uniform and be expected to throw the ball back on to the field of play should go it into that area... :o)
