WHITE Hart Combe's manager and club secretary Trevor Rawlings and his opposite number at Chippenham United RAOB Richard Thorne deserve special praise for getting the rearranged game played in Division Three of the Chippenham Sunday League.

Not on the original fixture list, the match came to be after the postponement of the fixtures featuring Biddestone White Horse and United and White Hart and The Southgate Inn - with Biddestone and Southgate due to be in cup action.

The match was also due to be played at Stanley Park but with that being waterlogged the teams agreed to switch it to Hullavington Barracks even though United had already lost their home match 10-1.

But they made every effort to play the game and unfortunately for them they never gained the result that they deserved for making sure the game was staged.

For the White Hart, their 5-3 triumph was the perfect way to end a losing run of four games that had seen the plummet into the bottom two of the table just above Richard Thorne's United side.

United took the lead through Ben Smith who drove home a brilliant free kick to give his team the perfect start, but White Hart hit back with James Stone restoring parity.

Smith regained the lead for United but once again White Hart came back with Jamie Farquharson levelling the game at 2-2. It was White Hart who gained the initiative just before the break when Stone's second of the game gave them the lead for the first time.

The start of the second half belonged to White Hart Combe but they were unable to add to their first half tally and missed chances looked to have proved costly when James Hernandez struck for United to bring the scores level at three apiece.

White Hart put the setback behind them and went in search of more goals which eventually arrived when James Stone gave put the back in front with his hat trick goal. Jamie Farquharson's second of the game made it 5-3 to White Hart and wrapped up the points that moved them out of the bottom two.

Farquharson missed out on a hat-trick when his 25 yard thunderbolt cannoned off the bar, Combe's Lee Fernandez was also denied his first goal since December when he rattled the bar with another good effort. Referee Dave Bradfield had a great game in the middle but the sporting spirit in which both teams played the game made his life easy.

Westbury Rangers B eased their own fears of relegation after they returned from Somerford with two valuable points in the bag after they thumped the villagers for a second time this season.

Dave Griffin's Rangers side won the home encounter 9-1 and they almost matched that scoreline in the reverse fixture but had to settle for a 7-1 victory. Tim Summerfield and Mark young were outstanding for Rangers as they tore their victims apart at will -Summerfield scored four of the seven with Young adding a double. Chris Storey was Ranger's other scorer and John Goad netted the villagers consolation.

Blue Circle (Sunday)'s match at the cement works, Westbury against Pack Horse Rangers and Sir Audley's Arms' clash with Corsham Park Rangers at Stanley Park were both casualties of the wet weather.
