PAUL Benson has joined Luton Town on a full-time basis following his release from Swindon Town this summer.

After long-protracted talks, the striker was finally unveiled by the League Two club today and could face his former employers in the first round of the Capital One Cup next month.

“It’s good to finally get the contract sorted. I’m looking forward to an exciting season for me and the club,” Benson told lutontown.co.uk.

“I think we have the players here to really push on and challenge at the right end of the table.

“I’ve been lucky enough to have been promoted from League 2 a couple of times so I think I know what players are required to do it – and I think we have the quality here to do that.

“If we take the momentum from last season forward I really do think we have a real chance of going up again.”

Think this will come back to haunt us - fair play to Benson, hope it works out well for him. 100% player and I still thought he could have done a job for us as a sub or something. Wouldn't bet against him scoring against us in the cup tie, Luton will be strong and confident on the back of promotion.

A good professional through and through who always gives his best. Good luck to him, nothing more certain that he'll score against us in the Capital One.

can't help thinking with our lack of a decent centre-forward, who we all know does the job extremely well.......

Good luck to him, a top pro, but we all know he is going to score against us. :o(

Top pro with simply loads of experience to put in the poachers place every time that cross comes in. That said, he was on top end money from PDC so from Powers view its a good move freeing up much needed funds. I wonder though if his legs will allow him to play a full game every week. That said though, he did a magnificent job for us, for which we should all be grateful, and I wish him well in the autumn of his career.

Completely agree with all positive comments on Benson. Great professional and great bloke. Perhaps it did become a level too far for him here but the way PDC cast him aside was shameful. After the effort Benson put in for the club, it was unforgivable for Di Canio to state publicly after a game "Benson is not a good League 1 striker". Sums up the Di Canio school of management. Great coach but inept manager of people.

Benson is the ultimate professional and has always conducted himself professionally on and off the pitch. I wish him well with Luton and no doubtedly he will do a top job for them. I know a Luton fan who said that last season their top scorer Gray got all the headlines but it was Benson who really made the difference to their team .
Good luck Paul and thanks for what you did for stfc during your time here.

Especially given his goals got us promoted - I reckon we would have struggled towards the end of that season to go up if we hadn't got him in.

Thumbs-up to that Steve-o, he deserves all the good times that may come his way (especially against you-know-who).

I am really pleased for Benno, after the way he was treated by PDC and being passed from Pillar to Post ever since I am pleased he finally has a club to call home!! A great professional and in my opinion an under rated player. He will do well at Luton and I wish him all the very best!
