SWINDON TOWN: Power will only consider 'ridiculous' offers for Luongo after summer interest in midfielder

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Massimo Luongo has been attracting the attention of several unnamed clubs Massimo Luongo has been attracting the attention of several unnamed clubs

A HUGE offer would be required to prise Australia international Massimo Luongo away from the County Ground this summer, according to chairman Lee Power.

Fresh from the news he will continue as Town owner, Power set out his stall for a summer of wheeling and dealing with manager Mark Cooper by his side.

Despite the lengthy court case blocking progress in places, Power has said several targets have been identified and the recruitment process begins in earnest today with the conclusion of the High Court hearing.

He also took time to address the pressing matter of Luongo’s future, after his minor role in the World Cup as a part of Australia’s squad last month.

He admitted interest had been raised by several unnamed clubs, but, for the moment at least, he would remain a Town player unless a staggering fee was offered up for the midfield maestro.

The County Ground chief said: “We’ve had a lot of teams come on and ask the questions about Mass and what we’re trying to do with him. We would like to keep Mass if we could.

“Obviously, if there was a ridiculous offer come in, Mass will be sold, like any football player, but ideally we’d like to keep him.

“We want to give it a real go this year. We feel we got the strongest midfield in this league and we want to keep them all together.”

i wouldnt be surprised if one of our players is sold this month to help us financially unless some additional sponsorship or investment comes in as Power has stated today he needs help and unless more season ticket sales happen the inevitable is to sell a player to help us along.
I hope we dont sell any and we dont need to but dont be surprised if we do.

Don't agree - last paragraph “We want to give it a real go this year. We feel we got the strongest midfield in this league and we want to keep them all together.”
.
Powers calls earlier were simply a rallying cry to the fans - as in if you want success you have to play your part
.
I don't think anyone will be sold unless there was a ridiculous offer come in - I am certain Fodders, N.Thompson, Byrne, L.Thompson, Luongo and Kasim will all be STFC players when the big KO happens

If Power thinks we've got the strongest midfield in the division, he must be counting someone who hasn't signed yet. Last season we had a lot of ball players in midfield but we lacked strength and stamina.
