JONELLE Price is anticipating another trip down the road to savour when she once again competes at the Barbury Horse Trials later this week.
The 33-year-old New Zealand international, who helped her country win bronze at the London 2012 Olympics, has three rides competing at Barbury, which gets under way on Thursday, with Aloha competing in the top three-star section A.
But the Mildenhall-based Olympian admits that she isn't putting pressure on herself to be in contention for the top prizes on her seventh appearance at the Trials and is content to enjoy her experience this year.
“Barbury is obviously a great event. The owners love it because a lot of them live locally and get the chance to come and watch, and it's great to see a lot of friends there,” said Price.
“I haven't really got all of my top horses there this year, so I'm not really thinking about going for anything in particular this year – it's just the way that it's worked out.
“But I've got some good young horses. Aloha has been to Saumur, in France, already this year and then there's Cloud Dancer, who could also do well in the two-star class (section B).
“It's a good opportunity for some experience for the horses and it should be good.”
Price's husband Tim, who is also based a Mere Farm, is celebrating his first major international selection for New Zealand after being named in the Kiwi quartet for August's World Equestrian Games in Normandy.
Olympian Price has been selected as first reserve on Classic Moet, with Jock Paget's inclusion in the four-strong Games team yet to be rubber-stamped due to an impending ruling from an FEI tribunal after his horse Clifton Promise tested positive for a banned substance last year.
The Barbury International Horse Trials run from July 3-6. Tickets start £15 on the gate. Children under 12 years go free. For information and tickets visit barburyhorsetrials.co.uk or call 01672 516125.
