BATH RUGBY: Heathcote set for Edinburgh switch
BATH have announced that fly-half Tom Heathcote is joining Edinburgh.
The 22-year-old Scottish international had one year remaining on his deal at the Rec but has agreed a release from his contract, paving the way for a switch to Pro12 outfit Edinburgh.
Heathcote made over 50 appearances for Bath after progressing through the academy set-up, scoring over 50 points in a Blue, Black and White shirt, but revealed that he is departing the Rec in search of regular first-team opportunities.
"This was a really hard decision for me to make – I’ve played all my senior rugby at Bath and have had some fantastic experiences here," said Heathcote.
"I haven’t been able to get the game time I’d have liked this season though and if I’m to push on with my career and playing for Scotland, I need to be playing regular rugby.
"I’d like to thank everyone connected to the club for the amazing support I’ve received since I joined the academy and I’ve no doubt the current group will improve even further next season.”
Bath head coach Mike Ford added: "We’re really sad to see Tommy go. He’s a fantastic young player and a true professional at a young age.
"He was keen to move to help further his international career before the Rugby World Cup and we didn't want to hinder his chances of playing for Scotland.
"I’m sure the move will help him reach his full potential and we wish him all the very best at Edinburgh."
