WORK on the County Ground pitch is well under way, as shown by pictures tweeted by head groundsman Marcus Cassidy this afternoon.

Most of the grass has been uprooted, with a new pitch due to be seeded over the coming days to give it plenty of time ahead of the new campaign and home friendlies in July.

Chelsea gave ( or sold ) their last one to Aldershot Town. If Banbury United's pitch is as bad this year as it was for the pre-season friendly last year maybe we could give ours to Jed in lieu of the dosh he's trying to screw out of us????? Or maybe we could bury him under it!!

Kane Hemmings being linked to STFC, striker with Cowdenbeath who bangs the goals in and at 23 would be worth a look. Need to find another Charlie boy and this is the type of player worth looking at. Wonder if the Spurs links are dead now Tim Sherwood has left. We may get further links if Sherwood goes to another club with Brighton looking favorites.

It wasn't us, don't think we even got a placing, which beggers the question what their criteria is, because ours would take some beating although it did cut up after the Colchester fiasco.

Slightly o/t I know, but does anyone else think Ashley Cole would make a fairly decent replacement for Jay McEveley? Granted, he wouldn't be as versatile as JayMac (I can't see Cole filling in at CB), but I think he could definitely do a job at L1 level for a couple more seasons.

Having earnt so much in his career he'd be prepared to come here on realistic wages and he could stay living in Chelsea and commute to Swindon as it's only about an hour on the train or, if he wanted to save money, he could get the coach to Oxford and then get a route 66 day rider at £6.50.

With Power's London connections this could be on the cards and would be a good coup, along with the possible addition of David James should Wes be on his way.

I think it would be a real coup and a statement of intent if we could get Tim Sherwood in as manager.

Next to no chance admittedly but he will be smarting after basically being shafted by Levy, so he couldn't get a better chairman / owner than his best mate Power, That friendship may help getting a realistic wage too, and a chance to prove himself at a lower level.

It may also encourage Power to open the wallet a bit too, as well as continuing the Spurs youngsters links when they inevitably get released.

Would be harsh on Cooper, but I would prefer Sherwood, and think the chairman/manager bond would be great for the club, particularly after the shall we say strained relationships we've seen for ages now.

As for the pitch I thought it was exemplary as usual, Marcus Cassidy did his usual sterling job, although why on earth that Colchester game was played in those atrocious conditions is beyond me, maybe we were scored on that day....

Idiotic comments like this one are the sort that really make me think twice about looking at the comments section on this site. How on Earth are we going to afford the wages of someone like Saha? Granted, if he was going to be playing week in, week out it would be worth splashing out, but he’ll only be warming the bench whilst Waldon and Storey are banging in the goals next season.

Also, would he relocate from London? If not, that’s one hell of a commute each day. Not great preparation for the rigours of League One and Johnstone’s Paint football.

I think we need to be keeping our targets more realistic, to be honest. Rio Ferdinand has stated his wishes to remain in football now he has left Man U, so maybe he could come in and work with Darren Ward in a player-dietician role?
