LEE WARD says his Chippenham side will put their all into avoiding another disappointing batting collapse when they travel to local rivals Biddestone this weekend.

Chippenham suffered an afternoon to forget in their season-opener last Saturday as they were skittled for a lowly 63 by Rockhampton.

Skipper Ward says that his side were found wanting with the bat and is hoping that their 46-run defeat is merely a blip.

“We bowled them out for 109 and were pretty happy with that but even though there was a bit of first-game rustiness, we were well below-par with the bat,” said the Chippenham captain.

“There was some poor discipline and some bad shot decisions. We had a long chat after the game to talk about where we went wrong and we want to make sure we put it right straight away, especially with a game against Biddestone next.

“There were a few good performances from a couple of new guys, like George Read and Matt Dumont, so there are some positives to concentrate on.”

After putting their opponents in to bat, Ward helped pile on the pressure as he took 3-20.

Rockhampton’s Matt Tyler hit a knock of 34 but George Reed(4-18) claimed the wickets of Christopher Perry, Jack Spence and Sam Phelps in succession to seal a hat-trick, with the visitors all out for 109 in the 44th over.

But Denson Narayan’s unbeaten 33 was the only high point as Chippenham wilted, with Rockhampton’s William Cartlidge (4-22) and James Hancox (3-7) doing the damage.

Dwaine Perry took four wickets for the loss of no runs as Biddestone won at Swindon by six wickets.

Josh Boulton took 3-46 and there were wickets for Naeem Khan, Chris Baker The hosts were skittled for 114 before Neil Bredenkamp’s unbeaten 46 helped Biddestone cruise to 118-4 by the end of the 31st over.
