Town boss after a Brazilian?

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Swindon Town boss Mark Cooper Swindon Town boss Mark Cooper

TWO Brazilian trialists and another from Spain played for Swindon Town in a development XI clash with Charlton Athletic on Wednesday.

The unnamed trio were part of a Town team which were beaten 2-0 by their south east London hosts, with Joe Piggott netting both goals for the Addicks.

Swindon manager Mark Cooper admitted it is hard for any trialist to impress at such short notice, telling the Advertiser: “It was gametime for the boys who have not featured, one or two young lads played and a couple of trialists.

“One or two people we’ve been wanting to have a look at or we said we’d look at their players. We obviously had a couple of spaces yesterday with the lack of numbers we’ve got and we had a look at them. It’s nothing pressing and nothing imminent.

“They turn up with their boots and shinpads and expect them to play like Ronaldo. It’s difficult for them. You’re looking for there to be something there, even if it’s just their attitude or desire to give everything they’ve got. You’re looking to see if they’re good enough to get in for pre-season for a couple of games.”

I know it's just Football Manager (but the database is brilliant and identified Wayne Rooney as a world class forward at the age of 15 - hold on, not a great example) but Swindon should have a look at Sergio Suarez. Currently plying his trade in Thailand having been released from Las Palmas. Out of contract at the end of the season.

Make you wonder if football clubs scour the database for potential players? I know Everton paid to access the database and notes one year. There must be merit for clubs like Swindon that need free transfers to look at as many trialists as possible, to give them a full pre-season to ensure we don't have a Dossevi situation again.
