  • Peterborough beat Carlisle, leaving Town four points off the play-offs with two games left
  • HT: Town 0 Bradford 0

5:35pm

Anyway, that's it from us today. A solid win for Town keeps them in touch with the play-offs but it is not going to be easy.

That said, this is football and we all know miracles can happen. Next up for Swindon is a trip to strugglers Notts County.

Follow all the action here next Saturday. Enjoy the rest of your bank holiday.

5:31pm

Miles Storey is now answering questions and is still confident Swindon can make the play-offs:

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Town striker Miles Storey

"All games are difficult but we never thought they were going to score. We were totally dominant in possession.

"You just have to be patient. Even at half time we were told to keep going and we would get a goal.

"The way we see it we need six points but they need five. If they drop points then anything can happen. We just got to keep winning and keep the pressure on.

"Coxy is a good player. He has always had that in his locker and has played well."

5:23pm

Goal scorer Lee Cox is now talking:

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Lee Cox won league titles with the Leicester youth team and Inverness

"A lot of emotion came to me when I scored. It's been tough at times but ive been positive and put everything into that celebration.

"I saw a couple of the lads warming up but I mamaneed to get the goal so managed to get an extra ten minutes.

"I know what I can do and am looking to show it at any opportunity. I hope I can get another chance in the last two games."

5:15pm

Mark Cooper has also revealed Alex Pritchard has played his last home game for the club.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Swindon’s Alex Pritchard scores Swindon’s second goal of the evening to beat QPR 2-0 in the League Cup

"Next Saturday will be his last game for us. He is on a youth loan contract so cannot play when he turns 21, which he does next week.

"He came to us a boy and goes away a man. I'm sure he will go onto bigger and better things."

5:13pm

Mark Cooper is speaking to the press:

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Mark Cooper

"I thought we totally dominated from start to finish. From kick-off they got everyone behind the ball so you know what type of afternoon it will be.

"It was important to stay patient and then we had to take our chance when it came.

"I thought they would come and have a go as they are safe but that is their perogative."

4:57pm

Not a game with too many chances but Swindon were the better team and deserved to win. Unfortunately with Peterborough also winning Town are four points off the play-offs with only two games left. Still, stranger things have happened.

Post-match reaction coming up.

4:51pm

The last few minutes are spent with Swindon keeping the ball in the corner to run the clock down. Peterborough secure three points, going 4-1 up against Carlisle.

4:49pm

Three minutes of added time.

4:49pm

88 minutes: Swindon looking a little edgy as the game comes to a close. Bradford break but a cross is only able to find a Swindon defender who clears.

4:46pm

85 minutes:  Mclean heads the ball straight at Wes and then appears to leave a foot in. There have been several heavy challenges over the last few minutes.

4:45pm

84 minutes:  Bradford looking to get back into the game. They whip the ball across Swindon’s six-yard box and Troy does very well to head it clear.

4:41pm

82 minutes: Smith takes a shot from outside the box but it is straight at McLaughlin.

4:41pm

Today's attendance: 8377 (299 away fans)

4:39pm

Town sub: Cox off, Gladwin on.

4:36pm

Bradford Sub: Thompson off, Bennett on.

4:35pm

75 minutes: Smith wins a free-kick about 30 yards out. Pritchard takes it but McLaughlin in the Bradford goal palms it wide and then punches the resultant corner clear.

4:33pm

Unfortunately, it's now 3-1 to Peterborough.

4:32pm

72 minutes: When he looks like he can only score, Pritchard drags a shot just wide. It was a great through ball from Luongo, helped on when a defender slipped.

4:27pm

Sub for Bradford: De Vita off, Mclean on.

4:27pm

63 minutes: Swindon 1(Cox) Bradford 0
Just as it appears he is going to be taken off, the ball falls to Lee Cox ten yards out who puts it into the bottom right corner for his first Swindon goal. Elsewhere, Carlisle pull a goal back. Is the dream back on?

4:21pm

As has been the theme for much of the game Swindon having all the ball but unable to fashion chances.

4:16pm

Peterborough are now winning 2-0. Swindon have to win to keep any play-off hopes alive.

4:15pm

55 minutes: No-one is quite sure how Town don’t score. Smith forces a great save after connecting with a Storey cross. There is a scramble in the box before the ball is poked out for a corner. Swindon camped outside Bradford’s box for the last few minutes.

4:11pm

51 minutes: Former Town player deflects a close-range effort from McEveley over for a corner, which comes to nothing.

4:11pm

50 minutes: Pritchard takes a shot from outside the box but it goes high. Town starting the second half like they ended the first.

4:04pm

Bradford get us underway in the second half. Swindon playing towards the Town End.

A sub for Bradford at half-time as well: Meredith is off for Doyle

Swindon1984 says

Think Sam must be in a good mood, we haven't been nearly as good as his right up suggests! Bradford definitely with the best chance of the half, good save by Wes as always.

Frankly, I can't see how Town have been anything close to poor. Defence have looked very strong from open play, created a few chances and Foderingham has one save to make from a free-kick. Dominated possession, passed the ball nicely, playing low-tempo perhaps wise after game three days ago. Opinions, hey!

4:02pm

The teams are back out for the second half. So is the rain.....

3:55pm

League One half-time scores:

Crewe 0  Colchester 0
Mk Dons 0 Brentford 1
Notts County 1 Crawley 0
Oldham 0 Coventry 0
Peterborough 1 Carlisle 0
Preston 2 Shrewsbury 1
Rotherham 0 Port Vale 0
Stevenage 0 Bristol City 1
Tranmere 0 Sheffield Utd 0
Walsall 0 Gillingham 0

3:50pm

The half time whistle goes with Swindon on top as they have been for much of the first half. They have passed the ball very well and as time has gone on Town have created more and more chances. Other than a few minutes early on, it has been all Swindon.

MATCHDAY LIVE IS SPONSORED BY:

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

3:47pm

There will only be one minute added time in the first half.

3:44pm

41 minutes: A fantastic passage of play from Swindon with some great passing. Eventually the ball breaks to Nathan Thompson in the box but he gets underneath it and his shot goes very high.

3:40pm

37 minutes: The ball breaks to Michael Smith just outside the box from a throw-in but his half-volley is straight at the keeper.

3:37pm

Now it is McEveley's turn to go into the book, apparently for dissent. The Bradford free-kick is put into the box, headed clear and then a shot is put high over Foderingham's goal.

3:35pm

32 Minutes: From a corner the ball bounces around the Bradford box before Smith hooks a shot towards goal. It looks destined to go in but Jones blocks and clears it. Still 0-0 but Swindon becoming more dominant.

3:33pm

30 minutes: From the resulting free kick Town try an elaborate training ground move which basically involves McEveley dancing around the ball before hitting a cross long and out of play.

3:31pm

A booking for Charles Davies for cutting down Pritchard from behind.

3:29pm

It has to be said that Swindon are keeping the ball really well. Bradford are defending really deep so Town are going to have to be patient and take their chance when it comes.

3:26pm

23 minutes: Finally an opening for Swindon. Storey steals the ball off a Bradford defender in the box. Pritchard finds a space but smashes it wide.

3:23pm

20 minutes: Town keeping the ball very well but really cannot find any way through. They've not had one chance yet.

3:17pm

13 minutes: A free-kick to Bradford is smashed low towards goal but Wes palms it wide for corner which is eventually scrambled clear after several attempts. Bradford looking the better team at the moment.

3:15pm

Sadly, it's bad news from Peterborough where the home team have taken a 1-0 lead against Carlisle.

3:13pm

Ten minutes: Bradford win a corner after Troy heads behind a cross but it is cleared without any real threat to Town’s goal.

3:11pm

8 minutes: Still not a huge amount to tell you about. Pritchard gives away a free kick in the Bradford penalty area. That is all

3:11pm

8 minutes: Still not a huge amount to tell you about. Pritchard gives away a free kick in the Bradford penalty area. That is all

3:09pm

Five minutes: Not a huge amount to report in the opening few minutes. Swindon keeping possession but unable to find a break-through.

3:02pm

And we're off! Swindon get us under way, playing towards the Stratton Bank.

2:51pm

2:49pm

One eye being kept on Peterborough, who play Carlisle this afternoon. Any slip up from the Posh and Town's play-off dreams could start to become a reality.

2:46pm

The crowd is starting to build. Green cards have been placed on all the seats in the Don Rogers Stand for fans to hold up before kick-off as part of a NSPCC campaign.

2:39pm

Alex Pritchard believes his goal return during his first full season in professional football could have been better but the midfielder is loving life with Swindon Town.

Whoopsy! Brand, spanking new WiFi in the County Ground press box just cut out for 10 minutes. Sorry for the absence of updates. Back now, but let's be honest, not much happened.

2:16pm

Even though it's 'Kids for a Quid' at the County Ground stewards have only been told to expect around 7,500 here this afternoon.

2:15pm

Back in December when Swindon Town visited Bradford City, Alex Pritchard scored what in footballer parlance was a 'worldy'.

Words won't do it justice - so have a look at this:

MAN IN THE MIDDLE

This afternoon's referee is Charles Breakspear and boy does he like sending people off.

The Surrey official has managed to brandish nine red cards in 23 appearances this season, an astonishing rate of one dismissal every two and a half games.

He's also distributed 94 yellows for good measure.

Breakspear was in charge of Town's 1-0 victory over Tranmere Rovers at the County Ground earlier this season.

2:09pm

Nathan Byrne is ill, hence his non-involvement this afternoon.

The Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust's Zambian partners are present at the County Ground this afternoon.

They're currently meeting Mark Cooper pitchside and can't stop smiling.

I had the pleasure of speaking with team leader Jon Holloway about their visit on Wednesday and it was eye-opening to discover the amount of good that initiative does in Livingstone.

Find out more about the partnership with Zambia on Thursday, when the Adver will be running a double-page spread on the project.

1:53pm

Sixfields seems to be a happy hunting ground for Town - after Alan McCormack's last-minute winner and Paolo Di Canio's long jog to celebrate with his players a couple of season backs, on Friday, Michael Smith popped up to head a 93rd minute goal.

Let's remember it...

1:52pm

We're just 10 minutes away from team news at the County Ground, the sun is out and Bradford City have arrived to have a look around.

1:50pm

Today is a designated 'Go Green For NSPCC' day. There's a lot of green about - and no, I'm not just talking about the grass.

Here's the lowdown from the charity itself:

"We are sticking 8000 fliers to seats. The announcer will be asking the crowd to hold these up to try and turn the County Ground Green just before the start of the game.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Nspcc

"The players - STFC and Bradford - will all be in our T-shirts as they come out of the tunnel and onto the pitch. We have 20 kids also in NSPCC T-shirts and carrying flags coming out with them."

Anyone can text 70744 to donate £1 to the NSPCC - it's a very worthy cause and well worth the spare change if you have it.

1:46pm

ADVER CHIEF SPORTS WRITER SAM MORSHEAD: "So, here we are, with three games of yet another unpredictable, barely believable season remaining. What's going to happen between now and May 4?

"To be honest, it would take a minor miracle for Peterborough to drop enough points to let Town slip in the stage door, but regardless of where Swindon finish this season I don't think anyone can say this Robins side has let the club down.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

"It's remarkable, given recent upheaval and ongoing off-field issues, that a group of young and inexperienced players, managed by a relatively young and inexperienced coaching team, are sitting seventh in League One and came within a penalty of a place at Wembley.

"Let's cheer them through the final 180 minutes of football at the County Ground in 2013/14 - in my opinion, they deserve it."

We're not expecting anything official until around 2pm but here's a quick rundown of the state of the Swindon Town squad ahead of this afternoon's fixture.

There'll be no Yaser Kasim, Grant Hall, Ryan Mason, Louis Thompson or Nile Ranger, all of whom are injured.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Footballer Louis Thompson

INJURED: LOUIS THOMPSON

Troy Archibald-Henville rarely manages two games in four days as he manages an ongoing knee condition and he is likely to be rested, with Jay McEveley dropping into the back three alongside Raphael Branco and Jack Stephens.

1:35pm

Mark Cooper's side beat Coventry City 2-1 three days ago, thanks to Michael Smith's last-minute header, while Bradford enjoyed a Good Friday of their own as they beat Peterborough United 1-0.

Frustrating at times, town only looking confident and going forward with purpose when the crowd are getting on their backs. Bradford are here for the taking but have managed the better chances, can thank the ref for giving them some dubious free kicks in promising areas. When we're going forward with urgency we look decent, but playing very slowly and without direction or purpose at times.

Anyway, take the best of the first half, more of the same early in the second, and come out with a higher tempo from the off and no reason we can't win this. Carlisle playing for their lives too, maybe they can salvage a point at boro.

Good win against a frustratingly negative side. Wonder why Parky didn't want to make a game of it when they had nothing to play for?

Branco very good, McEveley not far behind but collected another stupid booking. It's hard to see Posh not picking up the 3 points they need to get into the play-offs but at least we still have that very slight chance of promotion.

Not exciting as some recent performances but a solid effort and excellent run of form at end of season. Many around me thought Jay was MOM and I tend to agree but Branco was v good as were (as usual now!) Troy and Stephens. V pleasing to see Troy play twice in 4 days I hope that means the knee is getting stronger and I really hope we can sign him and Jay on for next5 season they are the quality experienced heads to go with our youngsters. Pleased for Lee Cox, good finish and neat and tidy performance. Thought Pritch was lively and dangerous throughout and should have scored, Miles held on to the ball better and I thought Smithy had a decent game. Still a slim chance, COYR!

Always gave his best for us and deserved our respect.

One goal was always going to be enough today after Bradford parked the bus and never threatened.
Shame games are almost finished but let's hope the momentum carries on next season.

Finally best regards to Oxford. Top of the league ........... And then history repeats and after Xmas they fall apart.

Agreed. Its irritating that they have such an easy run in! That being said pressure does make things more complicated even in the simplest of situations

Parky played exactly the same park the bus tactics as last time they came and got a 0-0 draw, After a very boring first half we did enough in the second to have won comfortably by at least 3 goals. Pleased for Lee Cox getting his first goal, I wonder if he just might get and extension of another season.

Parky parked the Bus and it was obvious they came for a point and got their just rewards for being so negative. Good display by the Town especially second half and all played very well. McEverley just gets better each game in his new role and must have been MOM but Branco did also play well who got the nod for MOM. Solid display and boy had we had this defence a few months back then we would definitely had made the top six in my view. Yes enjoyed the game and sad that this was our last home game for Alex Pritchard who has been a very good player for us and will be missed next season. It all is looking quite rosy for next season and if we can keep Troy and Jack Stephens at the back with Mr Ranger up front I feel we can get into the play offs at the very least. Hard Game next Sat with County fighting for their lives so don't expect too much from there but would love to ram one up Fatty Evans in the last game of the season against his Rotherham side.

Maybe they are having difficulty eating that humble pie.
Strange but not surprising that the same ones that were saying Cooper should go because of a poor run are not posting he should stay because of an equally good run!

Comfortable win, was surprised Bradford were so negative, I can't remember Wes doing much. Thought smith held the ball up a lot better so credit to him, and the defence was solid again.

Was wondering why Pritchard was waving goodbye at the end, would have been better if the club had let the fans know it was his last home game so we could have given him a proper ovation.

agreed. If it was Pritchard's last home game they could have perhaps mentioned it in the program (not read it all yet) so he could have had a proper goodbye from the home fans, certainly deserved a decent send off in my view.

Got to get TAH re-signed up, Stephens would be a very useful addition as well i think if possible for next season

Cooper said on interview that Pritchard is only here on a youth loan agreement, which ends when he turns 21, which is before the last home game. Disappointed to see him go, he's had a good season and one of the best loan signings in recent years, despite his collection of cards.

Bit surprised that the 'season-long' loan wasn't just that, surely that would have been considered when finalising the end date of the loan with a potentially important game against Rotherham, and that could have been with us needing to win to avoid relegation?

Thought we did enough to win today, Bradford were pretty dire and apart from a couple of small spells of possession did very little with their 4-5-1. In fact it was much like the PDC L2 season when team after team came here for a 0-0 with very little intention of troubling our goal.

Michael Smith did pretty well I thought, he held it up OK and got away a few shots on target but Jay McEveley the clear man of the match in his roaming role, and good to see his deliveries have vastly improved.

Very lenient ref who was letting Bradford get away with far too much on Pritchard first half and then Nathan in the second. Thought the first Jay booking was harsh but then he could have gone for the later challenge so that evened out I suppose. He also seemed to miss the kick by Stead on Troy, but then had a word a few minutes later without taking action?

Anyway another 3 points, and I'm coming round to the idea that the good form is down to the arrival of Stephens he truly is an excellent player. Would be surprised if him and Pritchard aren't playing in the Championship next season.

Wilesy, I don't think McEveley can have any complaints about the booking. It was obvious as he as chasing back that he was determined to stop the Bradford player by fair means or foul (and I'm not saying we should be unhappy about that). When he did get there he just bundled the bloke over. Some might have seen that as a bookable offence but the ref had clearly decided a free kick was punishment enough until McEveley decided to have a verbal go. As LR suggests, maybe it's too late for him to change but he would be a better player if he did.

Good result in the end, better second half than first. Still think the team looked a little lethargic first half, and looked reluctant to have a shot or cross the ball in first time, but they didn't have to commit too much forward to get the goal. Would love for it to go down to the last game of the season and see us sneak into the play offs but doesn't look likely - then again stranger things have happened, and can't rule it out until it's mathematically impossible.
