VISITORS to the Tedworth Point-to-Point meeting at Barbury Racecourse on Sunday, April 6, will see two pony races alongside the six action-packed thoroughbred races.
Leading amateur jockeys from the region and further afield will descend on the track to take part in six competitive jump races. However, the day will begin with pony racing at 12.15pm.
These races are for children aged 9-16 years and ponies measuring under 148cm.
Names to watch include James Bowen, Jonjo O’Neil (Jnr), Lorcan Williams, Abby and Ella McCain, Tom Marquaind and Harry Cobden.
Former jockey-turned-trainer Jonathan Geake, also the Pony Racing Secretary at the Tedworth Point-to-Point, said: “Pony racing is not only a great experience for the children taking part, it’s a fantastic spectacle to watch; competitive, fast and furious.
“It’s a great initiative providing the youngsters with a real race riding experience.”
Off the track there are plenty of food stands serving locally -sourced produce and a bar, as well as children’s entertainment.
Entry on the gate is £10 per person, with U16s going free. The first race is at 12.15pm, with the last at 5pm.
In error, we printed the date of the point to point meeting as this Sunday, rather than April 6, in today's Gazette & Herald
