WOOTTON Bassett were crowned champions of the Davis Wood League's East Central One despite dropping their first points of the season at local rivals Swindon A.
Bassett, who had won all of their 18 matches until Saturday, were held 3-3, but wrapped up the championship with three matches remaining, as top scorer Kyle Barnes, Kristian Mansfield and Mark Turner netted.
Wootton Bassett A moved further away from the bottom as they claimed a 5-3 success over Swindon B. Craig McLauchlin, Grant Kirkup, James Gregory, Milind Thapa and Rob Appleby scored.
Marlborough stretched their unbeaten Conference North run to six matches as a 4-1 win over Swansea City significantly boosted their survival hopes.
The home side grabbed the lead when veteran Steve Way tapped in at the back post.
In the second half, Way added a second and it was 3-0 after a short-corner strike from Anil Sud. Swansea pulled a goal back, but Sud’s second wrapped up the points.
Devizes moved to within a point of promotion from Central One as they crushed Yeovil & Sherborne 7-2.
The home side are eight points clear at the top of the table with three games remaining and will clinch the title with victory over Old Bristolians this weekend.
A sleepy opening phase allowed Yeovil to capitalise by scoring from close range.
However, Devizes were soon level as Tom Alsop won the ball back and set up Mike Greenman for a tap-in.
Devizes stepped up and attacked, quickly scoring two more in quick succession.
A frantic first half finished with Devizes 4-2 to the good and Alsop’s clinical finishing in the second period wrapped up the result.
