CHIPPENHAM fighter Ben Heap has been rewarded for his impeccable year with the chance to battle for a world title next month.

‘The Hammer’ Heap, 23, who fights out of Chippenham’s Spartans gym, will take on amateur world champion Ryan Edmundson on December 7, for the right to be number one contender for the WRSA middleweight crown.

Unbeaten Heap, who turned pro this year, has already made a considerable statement in the kickboxing world, by winning the ISKA Southern area title at 72kgs as well as becoming English champion.

He then added WRSA (World Ring Sports Association) British middleweight crown before successfully defending it in Chippenham.

His last fight with Audi Kinger ended in a split decision draw after ten, two-minute rounds, meaning they rematch on April 19 next year for the IKF (International Kickboxing Federation) professional British middleweight title.

Heap said: “If I win this fight (against Edmundson) I will be the number one contender for the world title and fight for it next year.

Heap has already received considerable local backing, with Diamond Divas beauty salon, Dadboy Supplements, Dial Web Designs, Womaa Fight Gear, Clairs Cosmetic Sales and Megan Hughes mobile hairdressing all sponsoring him.

Next month’s fight will be held at Bristol’s Park Centre, in Daventry Road, Knowle.

Also on the show will be Spartans’ Katy Simmons, fighting Toyah Chapman for the European kickboxing title while Carl Mallinson goes up against Shaun Forde on the same card.

Tickets are priced at £20 standing, £25 seated and £35 VIP.

They and are available at Spartans Gym on Cricketts Lane Industrial Estate, Chippenham.
