ROB Dean celebrated his home debut with a goal before admitting that, despite initial reticence, a move to Hardenhuish Park was a “no-brainer.’’

Midfielder Dean’s composed finish five minutes after half time sparked a flurry of three goals in eight minutes to settle the contest in the Bluebirds’ favour and continue the revival under Mark Collier.

The 23-year-old, signed from Division One South & West Swindon Supermarine, appeared as a substitute in Saturday’s draw at Biggleswade but, handed a start, delivered a performance of authority to help tame the White Tigers.

Dean was one of the first targets for new boss Collier and the challenge of a higher level eventually proved too good an opportunity to refuse.

“I enjoyed it at Marine – I had two-and-a-half years there, but when Mark came in for me, it was a good option,’’ said the former Highworth Town man.

“It was a bit of a no-brainer really. My initial reaction was actually to stay, but you are not offered many chances to play at a higher level and I thought I should take it.’’ Of his goal, he said: “It was one of those where you almost have too much time.

“When it came to me I just tried to keep it as low as I could. Luckily it went through a bunch of players and nestled in the corner.’’

Victory moved Town up to 13th – no mean achievement after an opening three months of the season that has seen them lose two managers and ship nine goals in one home match.

While talk of a challenging at the top end of the table may be optimistic at this stage, Dean added: “There is still a big chunk of the season left and we need to go on a run of winning games really. We just have to believe.’’
