PETE Toogood has returned to the Swindon Robins as co-promoter for the 2014 season, the club have announced this afternoon.

A statement released by the Robins read: "Swindon Speedway are delighted to confirm the return of former club owner Peter Toogood as co-promoter for the 2014 season.

"Toogood attended the British Speedway AGM at the weekend along with Alun Rossiter as representatives of the Excalibur Communications Robins.

"The club are delighted to be in a position to tap into Pete’s vast experience, both as a businessman and as a speedway promoter, and he retains a fine reputation within the sport.''

Co-promoter Rossiter said: “Pete is a successful businessman based in Salisbury and he has fine memories of his time at Swindon, where he was very popular with our supporters.

“His role will involve entertaining sponsors as well as working alongside me in hopefully restoring some stability within the structure of the club.

“After the AGM last weekend I am now getting down to the business of formulating my team plans for the new season, and I already have several ideas of which way I would like to go.

“We’re all looking forward with optimism after finishing as champions and then runners-up in the table over the last two years, and our challenge now is to ensure we maintain or exceed those achievements once again.”

Toogood, who has previously been involved with the Robins and is a former chairman of the BSPA, will work alongside promoter and team manager Rossiter to run the club next season, replacing the outgoing Gary Patchett.

Patchett, who was at the helm when the Robins won the Elite League title in 2012, is set to continue to own half the club along with Terry Russell but will take a backward step.
