CORSHAM booked their place in the final of the Dorset & Wilts 1st XV Cup against county rivals Trowbridge with a thumping victory The visitors’ pack dominated from the outset and the new centre partnership of Dave Finlay and Rory Auld broke the line at will.

They were denied an opening try when the pack shoved Dorset back across their onw line at a scrum but number eight Ben Russell was adjudged to have run into his own man.

It wasn’t long before before a loose clearance allowed Corsham to attack again and lock Jake Oldaker touched down.

A turnover off a North Dorset attack allowed Corsham full-back Pete Hynes to score the second try, converted by Dan Goldsworthy before Dorset responded with a score of their own.

Corsham hit back immediately with captain Finlay’s well-placed kick allowing winger Dan Hammond to win the race and score in the corner.

Dorset again rallied with a try but Goldsworthy began to dictate the game from fly-half and Russell drove over the line forn a score.

Corsham lost prop Steve Bailey to a yellow card before the break and Dorset’s third try left them trailing 22-15.

Auld also saw yellow in the second half, leaving his side with just 13 men but they held firm and, upon Bailey’s return, started to dominate again.

Russell ploughed over for his second, converted by Goldsworthy, and then added two more, both converted, as Auld’s return gave Corsham control.
