COMPETITORS in next week’s Castle Combe Chilly Duathlon could find themselves up against it in the bike section – with double Olympic champion Ed Clancy set to take his place in the field.

Clancy, who helped Great Britain win the men’s team pursuit title at the Beijing Games of 2008 and retain it at London 2012, as well as claiming omnium bronze, will line up at the season-ending event at the Castle Combe circuit on Sunday, November 24.

The 28-year-old, who was made an MBE in 2009, also helped Britain to gold in the recent Track World Cup in Manchester and is a multiple world champion.

He will contest the relay event at the popular Chilly duathlon, completing the 10-mile bike ride while partner Peter Brook does two, two-mile runs.

Clancy, whose mum Cathy teaches at Kington St Michael Primary School, will bring his own winning bike to Combe, to the delight of Will Whtmore, of event organisers DB Max.

Whitmore said: “It's fantastic that an Olympic and World champion is coming along to our event.

“We have a great relationship with Ed’s sponsors 9Bar and we’re told that he’s a very friendly chap and will be happy to chat to everyone competing on race day.

“The Chilly Duathlon is our traditional season-ender at DB Max and with Ed coming along, we’re finishing the year in style The Chilly will see multisport athletes throughout the south west contest the largest British duathlon outside of London.

There is also a 10k run on the day. See dbmax.co.uk for more details and entry forms.
