DEVIZES’ three-match winning run in Netball South West Regional League Three was ended by unbeaten leaders Abbeymeads.
The Swindon visitors’ speed and precision meant Devizes struggled to settle into their own rhythm in the first quarter, which ended with them down by seven goals.
However, in the second quarter, Devizes began to disrupt the Abbeymeads flow, the introduction of player of the match Emily Buller at goal shooter helping to cut the gap by two.
Changes to the visitors’ shooting line-up in the third, despite some excellent challenges on the shot from goal defence Jo Worrall. Although Devizes applied consistent pressure mid-court, Abbeymeads pulled away in the last quarter to end 44-27 victors.
Devizes travel to Cornwall to take on Penryn, two places below them in the table, on Sunday.
DEVIZES’ second string clinched their third successive win in the Moonraker League Premier Division with a 39-18 success over Chippenham B.
The visitors led 10-7 at the first break but, with Sarah Hogan at centre securing every loose ball on court and fine shooting from Ella Harding, they led 20-11 at half time.
Debbie Pearce and Emily Hutchinson came on after half-time as Devizes moved 27-16 in front, Mollie Green in outstanding form in defence.
Chippenham were restricted to just three final-quarter goals as goal defence Katie Edwards helped Devizes close out victory.
