NORTH WILTS ladies recorded a 28-shot success over Purnell in one women’s national inter-club team championship event – but lost out to Bristol in another by ten shots last week.

Making a rare appearance in the consolation Yetton Plate competition, after losing to Thornbury in the main Yetton Trophy this season, Wilts women were always favourites to land the spoils in their match with Paulton-based Purnell.

They were one shot down at five ends across the board trailing 26-25 but by ten had stamped their authority on the match and led 51-35.

North Wilts then forged away going 83-49 up at 15 ends and eventually won the match 103-75.

They took the honours on both rinks at home with Janet Hardie’s four coming back from 8-6 down at nine ends to win by 20 shots while away rink honours were shared at 1-1 with Sue Cooke’s quartet claiming an eight shot victory.

North Wilts now face Bristol, who were awarded a walk-over against Christie Miller, in round two of the Yetton Plate on November 23.

However, North Wilts are out of the Vivienne Trophy, a competition for non-Yetton players.

In a close match throughout they went down by ten shots to Bristol when losing 72-62 despite the two away rinks struggling for most of the game.

North Wilts only took the honours on one rink that skipped at home by Rosemary Fitzpatrick who won by six shots while Jean Harris’ quartet went down by one shot on the 21st and last end.
