WILTSHIRE swimmer Jazmin Carlin will be among Wales' leading athletes at next year's Commonwealth Games.

Former Wootton Bassett School pupil Carlin, 23, Jemma Lowe and Georgia Davies have been named in a seven-strong Wales squad for the 2014 Games in Glasgow.

Commonwealth Games Wales and Swim Wales made the announcement today, with Thomas Haffield, Robert Holderness, Ieuan Lloyd and Marco Loughran also named among the first athletes selected to represent the country next year.

Carlin became the first medallist for Wales at the Delhi Games in 2010 when she claimed silver in the 200metres freestyle, and the Commonwealths in Glasgow will be her third Games, following the disappointment of missing out on selection for London 2012.

"The last 18 months have definitely been quite up and down for me, not having the opportunity to compete at the Olympics was difficult to come to terms with but if anything it's made me stronger and it's made me more determined to compete and prove my ability," Carlin said.

"I'm really looking forward to swimming for Wales next summer, the Commonwealth Games is always a great event and it's the only time we get to compete as Wales so it definitely means a lot.

"Standing on the podium in Delhi was a really proud moment for me and the goal is to be doing the same in Glasgow."

Davies won 50m backstroke bronze in Delhi while Lowe won bronze at the same Games in the 100m butterfly, with Lloyd and Loughran joining the duo in competing at last year's Olympics.
