TOMMY Bridewell is hoping the trials and tribulations of a testing campaign have helped to set him up for a shot at the British Superbikes Championship (BSB) title next season.

The 25-year-old rider, from Etchilhampton, brought the curtain down on his campaign last weekend with sixth and fourth-placed finishes for Milwaukee Yamaha during the final round of the season at Brands Hatch.

Bridewell has featured for three different teams this season and reckons the ease in which he has adapted to new hardware should stand him in good stead if he can agree a deal to remain with Shaun Muir’s factory-backed outfit next year.

“It’s definitely been an up and down year and, at one point, it really looked like it might have been over for me but I managed to turn things around and it’s been quite successful,” said Bridewell.

“I had four podiums in three rounds and finished with a really good sixth and a great fourth last weekend. I’ve got a great team around me and I’ve got to say thanks to them.

“I’ve had to adapt to three different bikes and I’ve managed to do that in a single session every time. For most other riders, it usually takes them two or three sessions so if I can do it that quickly, that’s a big plus for me.

“I’d love to do a deal with Shaun to stay with Milwaukee but it’s just a case of waiting to see if that happens. For the time being I’m just going to get back into training next week and do a bit of motocross during the winter.

“It would be pushing on to get some wins next year and having a go at the title – that’s got to be the aim for sure.”
