DEVIZES maintained their 100 per cent start in Davis Wood League Central One with a comeback victory at Mid Somerset.

The game got off to the worst possible start for the visitors as Mid Somerset took an early two-goal lead.

Devizes were not physically or mentally strong enough in the opening exchanges but, midway through the first half, they pulled one back as Tom Alsop squared for Callum Lavens to drill home.

This shift in momentum proved critical and Devizes came out for the second half with all guns blazing.

After numerous penalty corners, an Alsop drag flick beat the keeper and the same player scored from another corner shortly afterwards.

The defence had a momentary lapse in concentration which allowed Mid Somerset back in, but Josh Bond scored with a superb deflection to seal a hard-fought win.

Marlborough are still searching for their first win in Conference North as their early run of draws ended with a 3-1 home defeat by Firebrands A.

Marlborough started the brighter but, against the run of play, fell behind.

The home side levelled within a couple of minutes as a pinpoint pass from midfield maestro Dan Crossman found Charley Horley, whose lighting-fast turn was followed by a precision reverse stick strike under the keeper.

Firebrands seemed to have the edge in most areas of the pitch in the second half, but their second goal arrived fortuitously as a hit-and-hope ball in to the D took a wicked deflection.

Marlborough pressed for a second equaliser, but were caught on the break five minutes from full time.

Chippenham opened their win account in Central One with a 2-1 success over Team Bath Buccs C.

The home side trailed to a Buccs goal at half time, but Mark Knight levelled as he converted a cross.

The winning goal arrived from a slickly-worked routine with Luke Morris finishing it off at the far post.

Wootton Bassett scored seven goals for the third game as their 7-1 thrashing of Wotton-under-Edge maintained their place at the head of the East Central One standings.

Mark Turner blasted home a rebound for the opener after just four minutes and quickly added a second.

Kristian Mansfield found an unmarked Matt Daniell for number three and Kyle Barnes added to the tally with a strike from a penalty corner after only 15 minutes.

Wotton pulled a goal back, but Turner completed his hat-trick on the stroke of half time.

Two quick goals at the start of the second half, from Turner and Daniell, wrapped up the victory.

Wootton Bassett A were beaten 6-0 by Swindon A, despite playing the second half with only nine men following a head injury to centre-back Elliot Daniel.

Ian Gould scored with five minutes to go to give Chippenham D a 1-0 win over Bristol UWE C in East Central Two.

In the same division, Wootton Bassett B defeated West Wilts E 6-0, Pete Sammon scoring four times and Grant Kirkup adding a brace.
