CORSHAM coach Dan Jeffries saluted his travellers as they built on the momentum gained from the previous week’s win over Swanage & Wareham in Bath.

Jeffries said: “Walcot have started the season really well and the composure and discipline shown while playing with such intensity was outstanding. It was a true team performance.’’

Under the watchful eye of international referee Tony Spreadbury, Corsham’s set-piece dominance allowed Dan Goldsworthy to kick to the corner and prop Ed Minty to drive over for the first try.

Goldsworthy added a penalty and further tries followed for Alex Twigg and prop Steve Bailey.

Corsham’s backs broke with Pete Hynes feeding winger Dan Hammond to touch down in the corner, quickly followed by flanker Jake Oldaker for a 30-0 lead at the break.

Walcot came out firing in the second half but Hynes went under the posts following a 50m run, Goldsworthy converting.

Scrum half Chris Jones then spotted a gap and cantered under the posts, again converted by Goldsworthy.

  • ROYAL Wootton Bassett captain Tim Gallimore was left frustrated as his side’s promising attacking performance yielded no reward in a 40-19 Southern Counties North defeat to Stow of the Wold at Ballards Ash on Saturday.

The home side got off to the perfect start, young centre Tucker Blinkhorn bursting through defensive line to cross under the posts and David Hogg converting within the first ten minutes, but they were eventually undone.

Gallimore said: “It was a real Jekyll and Hyde performance from us.

“With the ball in hand we looked dangerous and should have added to the three tries we scored, but without the ball we didn’t defend well enough and conceded some soft tries.

“We have to be harder to score against so we’ll look at the video this week and have an honesty session because we are falling off too many tackles.

“It’s really frustrating because our attacking game has been improving week on week but defensively we’ve not moved forward and it’s costing us.”

Stow responded to Blinkhorn’s score with three tries before a sin-binning left them short-handed and Duncan Fulling was able to break through to leave his side 19-14 behind.

Missed tackles allowed Stow to add two tries but, despite a sin-binning for second row Drew Blinkhorn, an impressive Bassett attack saw Tucker. Blinkhorn score his second before Stow scored again.
