JAZZ Carlin hopes to use the hurt of two medal misses to propel her to world title glory this weekend.

Carlin, a former Wootton Bassett School pupil, was the star performer in last month’s British Champion-ships, but she suffered double agony in the opening two days of the world championships in Barcelona this week.

The 22-year-old, who trains in Swansea, was touched out of the medals in the women’s 400m freestyle by just 0.14 seconds as New Zealand’s Lauren Boyle pipped her to bronze on Sunday.

The next morning, the Wiltshire ace failed to reach the final of the women’s 1500m – along with the 800m one of her stronger events – as her heat time of 16:06.46 left her ninth overall.

Welsh international Carlin went into the championships as one of Britain’s brightest hopes for a medal and her 800m campaign begins with the heats tomorrow morning followed by the final on Saturday night.

Carlin is the only woman this year to go under eight minutes 20 seconds for the 800m and, with a few days rest and recuperation, is still aiming to finish on a high.

“It is about recovering now,” she said.

“The 800m is on Friday so there is quite a long gap now, I can get back into training have a long rest and let my body recover a bit more.

“It is always more difficult when you’re trying to swim three of the long distance events but I did the best that I could.”
