BURBAGE & Easton Royal skipper Tom Wallbridge wants his side to keep their feet on the ground as they try to catch up with sides at the top of the table.

Third-placed Burbage notched up their fifth victory in a row as they thrashed Trowbridge by 132 runs, keeping the pressure on second-placed Marlborough and leaders Swindon.

“Everything is in our hands at the moment because we’ve still got to play Marlborough and Swindon again but we don’t really want to worry about the league too much,” said Wallbridge.

“We just need to concentrate on playing like we have been doing and if we win all of our games, we’ll be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

“Michael Papps was brilliant again on the weekend, with everyone else batting around him and, when we’ve got runs on the board, we’re always confident of bowling teams out.”

Burbage won the toss and batted first, with overseas star Papps, the top run-scorer in the West of England Premier League so far this season, putting the hosts in control with a towering unbeaten 132.

Trowbridge’s Wesley Fernando took 5-35 but Daniel Wootton (31) and Sourish Muhkerjee (18) added support to Papps as Wallbridge’s men posted 249-7.

Fernando top-scored for the visitors with 27 as Darran Freegard (3-16) and Adam Lavis (3-11) did the damage as the visitors were all out for 117 in the 35th over.

Peter Day hit a century as Marlborough edged out Winsley at Savernake Forest.

Tom Norris’ side were put in to bat first but Day hit an unbeaten 107, whilst Bob Homani (28), James Richardson (24) and skipper Norris (24) weighed in as the hosts posted 247-7.

Winsley’s Charlie Holton led the fightback with a knock of 54 and Stuart Hammond (44), Brendan Nasser (38) and Giles Williams (37) all put runs on the board. But Ben Head claimed four wickets as Winsley were out for 228 in the penultimate over.

Great Bedwyn’s three-match winning run ended at the hands of Swindon.

The visitors batted first after winning the toss, with Marc Williamson (80) and Jonathan Sore (68) helping them post 224-7, despite Bedwyn skipper Dan Swatton taking three wickets.

Swindon’s Ardil Domingo piled on the pressure, ending with 5-37.

Swatton made 39 as John Palmer and Alistair Tuttle hit 37 and 33 respectively but Burbage were all out for 167 in the 47th over.

Calne claimed their third win of the season as they won at Devizes by 22 runs.

The visitors were put in to bat and opener Tom Nott top-scored with 29 as Sean Adams and Courtney Earl hit 22. Devizes’ Ollie Hensberg took 4-20, with Dan Knight’s Calne out for 166 in the 44th over.

But Joe Wookey’s hosts fell short in their run chase, Darren Holcombe claiming 4-19 as Devizes were all out for 144 in the 32nd over.

There was misery for Marshfield as they became the first side to lose to Nationwide House this season.

Russell Lodge (76*), skipper Dan Watson (64) and Jeremy Bond (47) helped the hosts post 276-5 after being put in.

But Joe Perkins (77), Nick Clarke (52) and Mick Harris (46) did the damage as the visitors reached 280-8 midway through their final over.
