FORMER Corsham first team captain Peter Turner smashed a massive 213 runs in just 125 balls as the Station Road club’s third team romped to a 130-run victory over Beckington in Division Two on Saturday.

Turner, already the holder of the league’s highest individual score while playing for Goatacre, hit 15 fours and 19 sixes in his double century and was the dominant partner in a 244-run opening stand with Rob Shillaker (57).

Ganesh Narvekar added a run-a-ball 32 as the innings closed at 337-4.

Ben Keevil was the leading bowler with 2-89 and, in reply, Beckington settled for obtaining as many batting bonus points as they could, eventually reaching 207-8 Gary Peters maintained his unbeaten record for the season so far with a top score of 69 not out, while Dan Gulliford hit six fours and one six in his run-a-ball 43.

Corsham captain Martin Hick (3-45 in six overs), was the visitors’ leading bowler.

Box made it six wins out of six as they continued to set the pacewith an eight-wicket win over Swindon A.

Robert Styles and David Sanchez proved the keys with the ball, taking four wickets each as Swindon were dismissed for 193 inside 45 overs despite middle order knocks of 46 from Tom Codling and 43 from skipper Jason McGinley.

The villagers, though, had a largely untroubled run chase, Gerald Hayward scoring 80 and skipper Richard Foley an unbeaten 46 as they cantered home in the 42nd over.

Lacock made 170-5 in their clash with Collingbourne, skipper Steve Copland shruggling off a bad back to score 93.

Spinners Tom Pike and Billy Brett took 3-34 and 2-37 respectively.

In reply Collingbourne lost opener Will Eden early but Graham Chandler (21) and Iain Smith (86) put on a good partnership and Owen Sheppard (21) also weighed in.

A nervy last 10 overs followed but Bertie Rogers (18*) and Jack King (10*) saw Collingbourne to victory by six wickets – their fourth win on the trot.

Division 1

MALMESBURY were unable to move away from the second from bottom spot as they lost by three wickets against Beanacre & Melksham.

James Gaunt scored 54 of Malmesbury’s 170-7, sharing a fifth-wicket partnership of 71 with S Thomas and putting on 44 for the sixth with father Richard.

Rich Hemmings took 4-36 from 12 overs for Melksham.

Beanacre opener Jon Helps was unable to bat, promoting Dean Wallington up the order.

He smashed the bowlers to all parts of the ground, eventually going for 51.

John Wlltshire (14) and Hemmings (21) supported the calming influence of Steve Rendell (59*) as the home side nervously passed their target for the loss of seven wickets.

Purton recorded an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Urchfont as they kept their stranglehold on top spot.

Elliot Hill’s side dismissed their hosts for 121 with Wiltshire county player Tom Bowler claiming 3-39.

In reply, knocks of 56 from Akarshit Gomel and 40 from Bowler helped Purton to 122-2 from 19 overs.

“We keep improving week on week and I think Urchfont brought the best out of us,” said Hill.

“It was not a typical Urchfont track and they were hugely under-par with their 121, but they still had a strong bowling attack and we had to knock the total off.

“It’s key for us to hold onto this momentum because being top of the league doesn’t mean much after five games. We will try and hold onto it as long as we can and raise the bar as well.”

Wootton Bassett secured a narrow 16-run victory over Bradford on Avon.

Bassett reached 196-8 from their 45 overs with Darren Beasant hitting 68, while in reply Bradford just fell short on 180, Tony Laws scoring 50.

Division 4

BEANACRE & Melksham 2nd made it three on the spin at Lambourn, dismissing their hosts for just 71.

Chris (3-2 off four overs) and Tom Watling (4-4 off 5.5) did the damage and, in reply AJ Hobbs and Long made 24 inside two overs before Long was run out.

Joe Hutchinson (22*) and Matt Hunt (15*) saw Beanacre home inside 11 overs.

Robbie Pamphilon took 6-37 from 8.5 overs as Wootton Bassett 2nd defeated Potterne 3rd by 48 runs.

Bassett made 191 all out as Pete Ellis scored 60, Josh Smith 32 and Pamphilon 25 not out. Despite Mark Colyer’s 44, Pamphilon's haul, plus Paul Huckin wrapped up Potterne’s innings for 143.

Division 5

BRADFORD on Avon 2nd skipper Danny Hall continued his fine form with a superb 106 not out in his side’s 223 against Chippenham 3rd, An opening partnership of 55 between Paul Wilson (29) and Graham Long (57) got Bradford off to a good start and 70 for the second wicket between Long and Hall carried it on.

Wickets fell regularly at the other end as Will Giles (4-33 from 10.2 overs) and Andy Couzens (2-44 from 12) struck, but Hall reached his 100 with a six in the 43rd over.

The visitors’ opening bowler Sam Edwards tore through the top order taking 4-18 in his 12 overs.

Only three batsmen reached double figures as Matt John (4-22 from seven overs) finished them off for 80 in the 32nd over.

Division 7

WINSLEY 3rd made the best of starts at home to Burbage and Easton Royal 3rd.

With Neil Gibson (69) again in fine form, they reached 100-1 at the halfway point, but the game then swung dramatically, with Nick Cranston (6-26) ripping through a fragile batting line-up to reduce them to 154 all out.

Burbage’s Russ Buck (72) made light work of knocking off the runs, putting on 126 for the first wicket with Chris Armistead (39*), who guided his team home by seven wickets.
