CALNE Town's former management team of Jeff Roberts and Drew Youngsam have been appointed first-team manager and assistant at Hellenic League Premier Division Wootton Bassett Town.

Swindon-based Roberts, who guided Calne to Wiltshrie Senior Cup success in 2012, left Bremhill View in January, citing work commitments, with former Bassett player Youngsam following soon afterwards.

Roberts succeeds Dave Turner, who stepped down after guiding Bassett to promotion from Division One West this season and has subsequently become manager of Bassett's Premier Division rivals Shrivenham.

Bassett chairman Andy Walduck said “We have had a tough three weeks which in fact has been an emotional process. We have seen some very good potential managers during this time.”

“I’m pleased that Jeff and Drew have accepted the role and I know this will take us forward as a senior section in terms of integration in readiness for our new facility.”

Roberts added: “I’m pleased to be part of a club with such pedigree that is supported by a strong youth section.”

“The pending new facility shows ambition for the club, something myself and Drew wish to be part of.”

“We are looking forward in adding our own successes to the club’s history books.”

Roberts initially took the helm at Calne as joint-manager alongside Nick Vitale in the summer of 2010 before assuming full control when Vitale stepped aside in January 2011.

That season, Calne’s first in the Toolstation League First Division following relegation, Roberts and Youngsam guided the team to 11th.

The 2011/12 campaign was one of Calne’s most successful, crowned by their fourth Wiltshire Senior Cup triumph as Bemerton Heath Harlequins were defeated 2-1 in the final.

Roberts and Youngsam also oversaw a push for promotion that came up just short too with Calne finishing fourth, while the team also reached the semi-final of the Les Phillips Cup.

Last season saw Calne begin their campaign with a 4-2 defeat against Bassett in the FA Cup, but they enjoyed a good run in the FA Vase, reaching the first round.

After Roberts, who previously played for Devizes Town and Purton among others,  stood down with Calne in third position, they won just three more league games before finishing ninth.

Youngsam featured for Bassett under Pete Yeardley in 2004/05, scoring twice - including a stunning last-minute winner against Shortwood United - in 18 appearances.

Simon Paish and Simon Packer will remain in charge of the Reserves, and will be hoping for a third consecutive top five finish in Division Two West.

Pre-season training starts on Tuesday, July 2 at Rylands Way, with the session beginning at 7pm. Training will take place twice a week, with sessions also on Thursdays.

Bassett will share Cirencester Town's Corinium Stadium next season, ahead of a move to a new multi-million pound facility at Ballards Ash.
