WOOTTON Bassett’s promotion to the Hellenic Premier has taken a step closer to reality after the Football Association issued its proposed club allocations to the league.

The FA’s Step 5/6 review group met on Wednesday night and second-placed Bassett’s jump up from Division One West was one of the conclusions it reached.

The authority’s various verdicts are subject to formal confirmation at the Hellenic League AGM on June 19.

In the Hellenic Premier, rock-bottom Shrivenham and 16th-placed Highworth appear to have survived the drop, while champions Marlow have been promoted to Southern League Central and Slimbridge have switched to the Western League.

Tytherington’s request to follow Slimbridge was turned down while Wokingham & Emmbrook are now in Division One East.

Abingdon United have joined the Hellenic Premier after quitting the Southern League for financial reasons, while promoted into the division alongside managerless Bassett are Brimscombe & Thrupp.

Malmesbury, New College and Purton look set to remain in Division One West but Lambourn Sports have quit the league and will ply their trade in the North Berks League.
