Wootton Bassett put their miserable first fortnight of the season behind them as they overwhelmed Hinton Charterhouse.

Bassett, who lost each of their opening two fixtures, restricted their guests to 149-9 from 45 overs before cantering to victory with more than 10 overs to spare.

Player-coach Shaz Khan said: “It was nice to get that first win of the season. I think the team were very relieved. It’s nice to get that first one off your chest. We can concentrate now on the next game.

Ian Lancaster claimed 5-28 from 11 overs and Sam Lawro chipped in with 40 runs with the bat, youngster Jake Dymoke hitting 57.

Urchfont maintained their early lead in Division One of the Surridge Sport Wiltshire League as clinched a four-wicket win at Bradford on Avon The bowling of Joe Dorgan (3-33) helped restrict the home side to 163 all out in 40.5 overs after Urchfont had won the toss.

Bradford staged a late-order recovery, having been 42-4 and 72-5 at stages, the returning James Pike (21),Guy Tadman (26) and Keegan Smart (24*) all making scores.

The reply started in a blaze of boundaries, but Tony Laws struck back, securing a double-wicket maiden to leave Urchfont 22-3 off 4 overs.

Wade Williams’ 72 (including nine fours and three sixes) and Dorgan (44*) took their side home, despite the introduction of Rufus Lakin (2-13).

Purton’s overseas signing Akarshit Gomel helped his side to an eight-wicket victory over Malmesbury.

Gomel, an India U19 international batsman, spanked an unbeaten 87 in double-quick time to propel Purton past their 118-run target with more than 20 overs to spare.

Theo Blundell (25) and George Royle (28) top scored for Malmesbury.

Beanacre & Melksham were asked to bat by Spye Park and Mark Wiltshire (51), Darren Perrin (26), Steve Rendell (59), John Wiltshire (29) and Rich Hemmings (42) pushed their total to 255-9.

Skipper Hemmings bowled with pace as his 5-27 reduced the home side to 43-6 off 19 overs and saw them dismissed for 74 inside 29 overs.

Division Two

BOX secured a one-run victory at home to Westinghouse in dramatic circumstances.

Losing the toss, Box batted and, despite a middle-order collapse which left them at 89-5, they reached 175-7 off 45 overs, Dave Crawford hitting 43, Richard Foley 42 and Chris Bultitude 28.

Phil Meek (37) chanced his arm to help build a first-wicket partnership of 55, fellow opener Alex Williams (43) and Chris Grace (25) providing the support.

Westinghouse looked in control with 10 runs needed, three overs left and five wickets in hand but David Sanchez (3-38) and Foley (3-41) took it to the final ball where wicketkeeper Dave Kelly whipped off the bails to give Box victory.

Corsham 3rd came up short against Warminster 3rd after struggling to 126-8 in reply to Warminster's 150.

For Corsham, youngster Luke Curtis (1-31) and new seamer Richard Mockford (2-38) impressed.

Division Three

SEAGRY were beaten by three wickets against Swindon United Churches, after being dismissed for 118, Alan Boivin taking 5-27.

Despite 5-25 from Alan Norman, Churches’ win was completed with 12.2 overs to spare.

Wilcot reached 156-8 against Avebury, recovering from 19-3 thanks to Dex Dexter (26) and Mark Warburg (25), plus a 50 partnership from Graham Smith and Jamie Watherston.

Avebury got home for the loss of six wickets, Greg Dix scoring an unbeaten 63 and Smith taking 1-17.

Division Four

FOURTEEN year old Josh Hodder starred in Potterne 3rd’s 119-run victory over previously-unbeaten Bathford.

Hodder’s 44 and 70 from Mark Colyer helped Potterne to 182-6.

Hodder then took 5-6 from five overs to help dismiss Bathford for 63.

Corsham 4th were unable to defend 158 at Trowbridge despite some good bowling from Dan Goldsworthy, Amit Verma, Matthew Draper and Neville Dennett, Sam Julyan’s 35 helping Trowbridge home.

Division Seven

BOOMSBURY, put in by Winsley 3rd, batted positively, Chris Fardell (69) and Luke Mitchell (35) helping them to 112-2.

They reached 189, spinner Jamie Neate taking 5-55 and Winsley’s reply started steadily.

But three wickets in an over from Matt Williams (4-17) turned the game and with Mitchell (2-26) and Steve Oakley (2-20) also bowling well, they struggled to 81 all out.

Matt Lever, 19, scored 83 in Lacock 2nd’s 212 against Buscot Park 2nd. He hit four successive sixes and 29 in one over from Jon Slack (5-88).

Lever then took 3-16 in the reply, which closed at 70 all out, former Wales hockey international Richard Madley taking 4-9.
