BIDDESTONE’S Dwaine Perry is hoping he can hand back over to captain Jamie Mitchell with a 100 per cent record from his spell as temporary captain.

With skipper Mitchell side-lined as he recovers from a dislocated elbow, Perry has led Biddestone to three wins from their opening three games in the Glos/Wilts Division.

“Jamie should hopefully be back after this weekend and it would be nice to hand the reins back over with four wins from four games – the pressure would all be back on him then,” said Perry.

“We’ve had a good start but we’ve finished near the top of the league in the past so we’re not counting our chickens yet. There’s a long way to go.”

Niel Bredenkamp’s century put helped Biddestone continue their positive start to the season by notching up an eight-wicket victory over Potterne last weekend.

Neil Clark’s Potterne were put in to bat first and Ryan Higgins hit an unbeaten 75 from 77 balls.

Sahan Wijerathne made 61 whilst opener Tom Cullen added 33 but Perry piled on the pressure, claiming four wickets for just 18 runs as Potterne posted 201-8.

Jake Roberts took two early wickets for the visitors but Bredenkamp was unrelenting, hitting seven sixes and nine fours on his way to an unbeaten 108.

He was well-supported by Perry, who also ended the day unbeaten on 60 as Biddestone reached 203-2 with 32 balls to spare.

A depleted Chippenham racked up a convincing 62-run win over Dumbleton.

Electing to bat first, Lee Ward’s side put together a well-paced innings to finish on 194-7, with debutant Charlie Sutton scoring 48, supported by Billy Cookson (32) and Tom Young (39).

Michael Hunter took 3-14 whilst Arran Merryweather and Michael Torr helped themselves to two wickets apiece as Dumbleton were skittled for 132.

“With so many players out we were a little concerned but the players coming in stepped up to the mark and showed the depth we now have at the club,” said Ward.
