DARRAN Walters and Justin Webster are hoping they can be the dream team to bring the good times back to Devizes Town next season.

Walters and Webster have been appointed as the new joint managers at Nursteed Road after Mark Love left the club last week, with Walters stepping up from the reserves and Webster promoted from his role as Love’s assistant.

With enticing local players back to the club the new-look management team’s main remit, Walters, who was part of the Devizes side that won the Toolstation League (then known as the Screwfix League) First Division title in 2000, is hoping to make use of his experiences as a player when he takes joint charge for the 2013-14 campaign.

“I’ve always been at Devizes and I took a youth side right through from U10s – being with the first team always seemed like a job I’d do at some point,” said Walters, whose son Adam is a goalkeeper for Devizes reserves.

“Results hit rock bottom last season and the first team squad is a blank page at the moment.

“I haven’t got a lot of experience at this level but I knew what it took to win as a player so I’ll be trying to use that experience to push the side forward.

“I don’t think that having joint managers will cause any problems either as I’ve known Justin for a while.”

Webster says that he was sad to see ex-boss Love leave the club but is looking forward to trying to improve Devizes’ fortunes alongside Walters.

“Mark’s my mate and it’s a shame that he had to leave but I guess something had to change after last season,” said Webster.

“I got to know Bud (Walters) when I managed a Wroughton youth side.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to try and get some of those Devizes lads back playing for the club and also get a few from elsewhere to compliment that.”

Devizes have also bolstered their coaching ranks by bringing in former Wootton Bassett Town assistant Andy Brien and are chasing the signature of Mark Barnes, who was the Hellenic League side’s top scorer last season.
