CHIPPENHAM TOWN: Rudge eyes turning point

BLUEBIRDS boss Nathan Rudge is hoping that his side's comeback against Bedworth United yesterday is a turning point in his side's season.

Chippenham found found themselves staring down the barrel at 2-0 down at half-time in Warwickshire but dug themselves out of a hole in the second period, with Lee Phillips scoring twice to earn a point.

Rudge was delighted with the character shown by his players.

“After the first-half and being 2-0 down, it felt like how many could we keep it to to be perfectly honest – we weren't playing well again,” said the Bluebirds manager.

“But we had a word at half-time and the lads have responded brilliantly. After the second half, it's a game we probably should have won.

“We scored two good goals and had more chances and if there'd been another five or ten minutes, there was only one side that would have won it.

“Hopefully, that's the turning point of our season and to to come back from 2-0 shows a bit of character from the boys - one thing that we have got is fighting spirit.

“It keeps the gap between us and the other sides there and we've now got to go to Bashley and take the positives, which there are plenty of.

“We had some good performances today and I thought that the two lads that came in from Exeter (Jacob Wannell and Jordan Tillson) were outstanding.

“We've just got to keep grafting and hard work is the key at the minute – we've got good players but when you've had a bit of a slump, you've got to go back to basics.”

Chippenham remain 16th in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division and on Tuesday night, Rudge's men face another vital away trip when they travel to 19th-placed Bashley.
