West Ashton farmer and grandfather Rob Pike died suddenly at his home last Wednesday after a heart attack. He was 54.

Mr Pike, who has one brother, was born on November 6, 1960, and lived at Home Farm in Rood Ashton, near Trowbridge, for most of his life – apart from a brief period in Westbury.

He started his education at West Ashton School, before attending Ravenscroft School and then Lord Weymouth’s Grammar School in Warminster. He worked on the farm until he was in his early 20s.

Mr Pike got to know his wife Elaine properly in the early 1980s, although the pair had first met when they were much younger as their mothers went to the same hairdresser.

They married in March 1986 and had two children, Ben, 28, and Rhiannon, 26. They also have three grandchildren, Tommy, Maddison and Leo, who Mr Pike was incredibly proud of.

Mr Pike ran R&B Marquee Hire with his wife for more than 20 years and regularly attended music festivals such as Glastonbury and the Village Pump.

When he was not working, Mr Pike enjoyed hunting and fly fishing, as well as dog walks. He was also very passionate about music and enjoyed watching live bands.

His wife Elaine said: “He was a larger than life person, always very jolly and smiling. He knows so many people and was always very generous and easy to talk to.

“He was someone who would enjoy life to the fullest and he was also a big family man. He was a great dad and he was very proud of his three grandchildren.

“Rob used to go to festivals as part of the marquee business, but he would always mix business with pleasure and he loved watching bands live.

“I want to thank everyone who has been in contact as we have been overwhelmed with support. I have had so many flowers it is like a florist at home, but we are very grateful.”

Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been confirmed.
