Tributes have been paid to Potterne Cricket Club stalwart Steve Patten-Hall, who died last week aged 49.

Mr Patten-Hall, who until recently ran the Royal Oak pub in Marlborough with his wife Abi, died in hospital in the early hours of November 18, after suffering a heart attack.

Mr Patten-Hall also leaves three children, Gemma, James and Emily and grandson Tobias.

Cricket club vice-chairman Graham Gaiger said: “It is an absolute tragedy. Steve was a lovely man and an absolute Potterne Clubman through and through.

“He worked tirelessly with our kids and his family are very involved members of the club.

“Everyone is utterly distraught at his passing.”

His funeral service will be held at 11.30am on Tuesday at West Wiltshire Crematorium followed by a wake at Devizes Sports Club.

Mr Gaiger said he expected a big turn-out from the club.

Many members took to the club’s Facebook page to leave messages of support for Mr Patten-Hall’s family and fond memories of the coach and player.

Player Jake Roberts wrote: “Steve was a great guy for what he did and brought to the club.”

Club chairman Fred Kerley wrote: “Fantastic clubman and a top bloke.”

Robert Hyslop added: “One of the best, taken too early. RIP Steve.

“You will live on in the hearts of all the juniors you have coached and passed on your love of the game.”
