INTREPID explorers scaled three peaks in bid to raise awareness and funds for the NSPCC.

Two employees at Royal Bassett based Clarion put on their walking boots to trek 25 miles for the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge on June 9.

Michelle Doolan, Clarion’s senior manager for Semi OEM sales and marketing and finance manager Sarah Engley completed the challenge in a speedy 11 hours and 15 minutes.

They scaled Pen Y Ghent, Whernside and finally Ingleborough as they claimed 1,500 metres over 39km.

The duo raised more than £1,500 for the NSPCC which they presented to the charity at their Little London Court service centre in Old Town.

Michelle, who lives in Old Town said despite some rocky moments, the fundraising kept them motivated.

“It was hard work but every time we thought, I can’t do this, I was like think of the children who need our help and that kept us going,” she said.

“It’s also something ticked off the bucket list, nothing can prepare you for a challenge like this.”

Sarah, from Abbey Meads, added:

“I’m quite competitive anyway so I was determined to keep the pace up. We were able to do it within 12 hours which we are so proud of.

“The support we’ve had has been amazing from work, friends, family, people at the gym. They’ve all really got behind us and we smashed our target which is a great feeling."

A much-needed pint of Guinness and a cider awaited the pair as they triumphantly reached the top of the third peak.

Caroline Morgan, NSPCC fundraising manager said the centre was delighted with the donation:

“I can’t believe how much money Michelle and Sarah raised, it’s unbelievable. People doing amazing challenges like this one enable us to keep delivering the services to vulnerable children in Swindon and across the UK. We are so grateful.”
