ROYAL Wootton Bassett was represented in Blain, its French twin town, at celebrations to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Blain's twinning with Alcoutim, Portugal.

Mayor and Mayoress, Coun Ian Ferries and Judi Ferries, John and Liz Eastgate and former mayors, Chris and Audrey Wannell were guests at a reception during which twinning charters were signed by Blain's mayor Jean-Michel Buf and the Mayor of Alcoutim.

Gifts were exchanged and entertainment was provided by a youth dance troupe who performed to North African music.

Friendships were formed between residents of the three twin towns at social functions that included an outdoor party, a spectacular fireworks display and generous hospitality of Blain families in their homes.

The visitors met representatives of local associations, and were welcomed at Blain's chateau for a splendid buffet lunch and musical entertainment. A further highlight was a horse-drawn carriage ride through Blain and a tour of the town museum. Pupils of the local school provided tea and cakes for the party afterwards.

A trip to Nantes included a visit to Les Machines de L’Ile, demonstrations of the moving machinery and carousel rides.

Coun Ferries, who became involved in the Town Twinning Association only recently, said: "The wonderful hospitality of Blain residents, and our host families in particular, made for an outstanding trip and a wonderful introduction to the concept of twinning."
