WILTSHIRE Police special constables recently volunteered on their day off from work to get out in the cold and tackle speeding in the Pewsey area.
In Milton Lilbourne, Burbage, Bedwyn, Easton Royal and Avebury two special constables stopped motorists in areas where recent speeding problems have been reported.
Special constables are trained volunteers, who when on duty, have the same powers as regular police offers, and they were on the lookout for drivers doing more than 40 miles per hour in a 30 miles per hour limit zone.
The results of the day were six verbal warnings and six fixed penalty notices were issued, resulting in a £100 fine and three points for each motorist.
The highest speed of the day was 47 miles per hour through the village of Avebury.
Special constable David Turner said: “Speeding is an issue for us that regularly gets reported to us by local communities. I was really pleased that we were able to be out in the community and offer the support to help tackle this issue"
