NEARLY £20,000 worth of funding for projects in the Pewsey area has been awarded by councillors.

Cash to create a small BMX dirt jump in Pewsey worth £5,000, near the small wood at the football club, was among the applications to get the go-ahead last week by the Pewsey Area Board.

The facility is going to be developed by the young BMX enthusiasts in the village who have been trying to develop it for a number of months. The money will be used to pay for equipment, which includes fencing amongst other items.

A BT telephone box next the Woodbridge Inn, which was bought for £1 and is being refurbished by North Newnton Parish Council, will also soon be home to a defibrillator after a bid of £500 to help pay for it was granted.

The total project costs £2,020 and has been raised through fundraising, a scarecrow trail and coffee mornings and will pay for training on how to use it. It will also be close enough for residents in Rushall to use as the village does not have one.

The Pewsey Heritage Centre also had their grant of £950 approved to buy a new computer to replace their outdated one for their outreach programmes to be used by volunteer staff.

Stanton St Bernard’s village hall also got their £1,425 approved to upgrade the toilet facilities and Wilcot and Huish with Oare Parish Council received £2,419 to fund a trip to Adrenaline Alley in Corby, so youngsters interested in BMX, scooters and skateboarding can learn about safety and experience riding.

Pewsey Vale Youth FC got £3,795 to reinstate an 11 v 11 pitch at the hospital pitch site and £360 was approved to pay for cheerleading lessons at Pewsey Vale School.
