WEIGHTLIFTER and family man Joshua Wall has gone through achy legs and nearly 100 days of pain to raise cash to beat dementia.

Mr Wall’s family has been impacted by dementia twice, with both of his grandfathers affected by the illness that can cause a person to lose their independence and a life time of memories.

The strength and conditioning coach, from Marlborough, is attempting to squat 850,000 kilos in 100 days, a kilo for every sufferer of dementia in the UK.

He said: “It's been hugely challenging but fantastic to raise awareness for a cause very close to me.

“The impact of this illness is very personal to myself and family on both sides. Both my Grandads have suffered from the illness, one passing away last Christmas with Vascular Dementia and the other currently under 24-hour care for Frontotemporal Dementia.

"The impact on families when their loved one cannot recognise them is a tough one to take.”

He is also raising cash to accompany the Welsh Men’s Lacrosse Team to the World Championships. The sport does not currently get any central funding, with members paying over £2500 each just to take part in the competition.

Mr Wall, 26 of Macklins Court, has been training the team for the last two years and is desperate to see them play in the championships.

So far he has had £2760 in sponsorship and will complete the challenge on April 13, having begun in January.
