FURTHER names have been added to the growing list of authors taking part in this year’s Marlborough Literature Festival.

Military historian Max Hastings, ex-MP Alan Johnson and travel writer Lois Pryce have now been announced as attending the three day literary spectacle in September.

They will join the 2018 Golding Speaker Rose Tremain from September 28-30 ro talk to crowds of bookworms in the town.

Acclaimed war and military historian, Max Hastings, spent his early career as a correspondent, reporting on the 1982 Falklands War. His latest book, Vietnam: An Epic Tragedy, 1945-1975, chronicles one of the most devastating international conflicts of the 20th century and how its people were affected.

Lois Pryce set out to document the real Iran after being inspired by a mysterious note left on her motorcycle from a stranger asking her to visit the county. Revolutionary Ride: On the Road in Search of the Real Iran reveals her experiences with contemporary Iran and the people who live there, from carpet sellers to war veterans and housewives.

Alan Johnson held a number of Labour Cabinet positions in both the Blair and Brown governments including serving as Home Secretary from June 2009 to May 2010 and retired from politics in 2017. His latest book In My Life: A Music Memoir traces his memories through the music that has shaped him.

Jan Williamson, chair of the Marlborough LitFest said: “We’re very excited to welcome these three great writers to talk about war, travel and memoir. Together, they reflect the diversity and strength of this year’s programme.”
